This week Miriam speaks about her failure at Western Exceptionalist Ashkinormativity. Kidding, kind of.

Jews have plenty of existential yearning. This is a moment that Jews in the Diaspora and Holy rollin’ (or not) types here in Israel have cried and actively not cried more than we ever wanted to.

Being a mother in Israel since October 7, 2023 means that we are thinking of how the world will be for our children. Will my little boy drive a tank someday? Will my daughter need to carry a rifle on her back while running errands? Maybe, I hope not.

They are the best generation and I know that with all the pain they may endure, they get all of the benefit of being a Jew. And that works for me.

We will be taking a break for the chaggim to be together as a family and as Am Yisrael.

Shayna and Miriam talk bread, painting, dance parties, and bomb shelters for tiny kids living in Tzfat. Tzfat is the city where Jewish Mysticism has its soul. What it lacks in modern infrastructure and safety for vulnerable populations, it makes up in holiness, love, and a certain scrappiness that gets things done.

Shayna’s Non Profit Sparks to Life has already built 20 bomb shelters in the Tzfat area and is looking to build 15 more. This is where you come in: let’s raise money to make this happen.

You may be wondering, “Miriam, shouldn’t the Government be doing this? Why are you asking us for more money?” and you would be right. Yes, it should be doing this, but it isn’t, so that’s why I’m asking for money. And Shayna at Sparks to Life listens to the needs of the people and finds a way to address them.

This is a palette cleansing episode in which Miriam speaks into the void, aka talks to herself into a microphone.

A subscriber recently forwarded me an article from Israel Hayom / JNS, Toll of war: Two-thirds of Israeli women report health decline . Part of me says, “Yes. We ARE struggling, thanks for noticing,” and I say that with a “Miriam facetiousness score” of 40/100 (I am still working on the scale, bear with me). It’s easy to see, just talking with friends and interacting with families in my neighborhood.

The article talks about a study performed by the Briah Foundation, which I know very little about, but looks pretty special.

Ultimately, this Gan / Maon helps the parents so that they can heal and move forward, while offering gentle support to the most vulnerable group.

This goal has been achieved, thank you so much!
