Here is Thomas Sherrill’s recollection of how Appalachian State students celebrated in 2007 after upsetting Michigan, carrying the school’s goalpost around campus and eventually to then Chancellor Kenneth Peacock’s house. Episode 3 is about Michigan fighting back. The 5th-ranked Wolverines were a roster filled with future NFL talent like Chad Henne and Mario Manningham. Head coach Lloyd Carr wasn’t letting his team go down without a fight. As Appalachian State head coach Jerry Moore told Charissa Thompson on the sideline they were about to get “the best the Big Ten’s got. The way they would play against Ohio State… Notre Dame… Rose Bowl. That’s the way they’ll play the second half.” Despite starting the half down 11 and star running back Mike Hart getting banged up, Michigan was determined to not let a small school from the mountains of North Carolina embarrass them.

Episode 2 explores how the Mountaineers were able to go into halftime with an 11-point halftime lead on the Wolverines in The Big House. To do that, the Mountaineers defense needed to limit a potent offense led by Chad Henne, Mario Manningham, Mike Hart and future 1st overall pick Jake Long. Not to mention, establishing the run on offense with QB Armanti Edwards and RB Kevin Richardson as well as getting the ball in Dexter Jackson’s hands to make a few more plays. Getting a first-half lead on Michigan isn’t easy. This is how Appalachian State did it.
