• Episode 110 - Change and Inluence - part 2 The Rider
    Sep 4 2024
Welcome back to our podcast! This is the second episode in our four-part series on change management, influence, and personal transformation. In our last episode, we explored the Rider, Elephant, and Path framework from Dan and Chip Heath's insightful book "Switch." Today, we're diving deeper into the Rider—our analytical and rational side. The Rider is the part of us that thrives on logic and problem-solving, adept at planning and seeing the bigger picture. However, it can also fall prey to overthinking and analysis paralysis, which can hinder progress in both personal and professional settings. In this episode, we'll discuss three key strategies for directing the Rider: Finding the Bright Spots, Scripting the Critical Moves, and Pointing to the Destination. These strategies are essential for effective leadership and personal growth, so let’s unpack them together!

I’m going to replay Episode 65 on Influence for this episode. I’ve mentioned the importance of influence and the applications of influence many times over the course of this podcast. In the next episode I hope to take a look at pragmatic applications of Influence. Before I do that, however, I want to replay this episode for you and encourage you to let the thoughts of influence and leadership mull around in your head over the next couple of weeks.

  • Episode 106 - Self Confidence vs Self Worth
    Jul 24 2024
Last week I listened to an episode of the Greg Groeschel Leadership Podcast. Greg was interviewing Jamie Kern Lima. She was a TV news anchor but wasn’t able to find the right products to solve her beauty concerns, so in 2008 she founded IT Cosmetics. Within eight years she sold her company to L’Oreal for $1.2 billion in cash. The interview was about the upcoming release of her book Worthy. In the book Jamie explores the distinction between self-confidence and self-worth and offers actionable techniques for nurturing self-esteem. I haven’t read the book yet, but in this episode I’m going to take a look at those two concepts: self-confidence and self-worth.

    Jun 26 2024
The concept of confronting the brutal truth, as described by Jim Collins in his book "Good to Great," is a powerful lesson in leadership that resonates deeply. It's about facing reality head-on, even when it's uncomfortable or challenging. In a world where optimism often reigns supreme, the ability—and willingness—to acknowledge harsh realities is a defining trait of great leaders.

    Jan 31 2024
Our Default mode is the intricate web of reactions and behaviors ingrained in your very being. It's akin to an autopilot setting, a fusion of your distinctive personality, the DNA that defines you, and the influences that molded you during your formative years. This intricate interplay raises essential questions: "Do you truly understand your Default Mode of response?" and, perhaps more profoundly, "Are you content with it?"

    Jan 17 2024
    Self-Pity

Let's delve into the timeless story of Elijah, a character from the Bible, and unravel the threads of self-pity that wove through his part of his story. Elijah's saga, as recounted in 1 Kings 19:9-18, serves as an example of the all too human struggle with feeling like a victim, and the consequences of succumbing to self-pity.

This episode will share a two step process for dealing with self-pity and victimhood.
