Hello there! It's episode 24 and, somewhat unusually, the lads go straight in and talk all things Premier League after a weekend that saw Robert Sanchez help Manchester City defeat their beloved Blues 3-1. Cue a bit of a discussion about Chelsea's other 7 goalkeepers and Kepa Arrizabalaga who is currently on loan to high flying Bournemouth.

It's also another episode and another poor week for Team Pod. This leaves Matt considering a wildcard so that he can rip it all up and start again. Matt is also left to regret not listening to his podcast of the week ahead of game week 23 as the advice on Above Average FPL was pretty solid.

Team Tok continue to fly high and the lads look ahead to game week 24 and discuss the triple captain and Assistant Manager chips respectively. Given recent results, this episode isn't pleasant listening for Dominic Solanke and his Tottenham teammates but, even then, Spurs are doing better than Matt and Team Pod!

The chaps do go on their usual tangents but, this time, they are football related and include chat about the Chinese Super League and references to the recent downfall of Guangzhou F.C. This prompts them to wonder if they should migrate from BlueSky to RedNote when it comes to their use of social media.

We are also hoping to finally have some music for the podcast next week so, until then, we have used some of the "best of clips" as well as some bloopers from our visits to Tooting and Mitcham. The final clip may make you think of The Minions. You'll know when you hear it!

    Jan 23 2025

We're at episode 23 and the show starts with Nick talking about his latest visit to the Mayfield Stadium to see AFC Croydon take on Eastbourne Town. And, finally, the lads have got their replica Rams shirts! See episode for more details.

Matt and Nick finally talk FPL and, as ever, Team Tok continues to lead the way with poor Team Pod just not getting the luck, nor the points, this season. In particular, Matt regrets his Newcastle treble up and thinks that, maybe, his would have had more joy if he kept his Magpies quota to just Lewis Hall and Alexander Isak.

Otherwise, the brothers talk about fixture proof AFC Bournemouth, why Nick doesn't like Everton (sorry Toffees fans), and can Leicester repeat their great escape from the 2014/2015 season and go onto win the league again the following year like they did 9 years ago? Unfortunately for the Foxes, we think not.

Of course, Matt and Nick weave in and out of all things Premier League as they discuss the use of AI voice-overs in FPL content in relation to Nick's TikTok of the week. Speaking of which, we are relieved that our US listeners still have access to this platform so they can look at the videos which we discuss in this week's episode!

Speaking of TikTok bans, the chaps are quite happy to avoid real-world events for the time being and seek solace in the world of sport. This is all despite some bloke from across the pond celebrating his first-day back in his old job!

On a lighter note, we continue the FPL podcast love-in with another shout-out to the incredible Beyond the Sidelines pod. The BTS guys, (not the Korean boy-band), returned our enthusiastic discussion of their show with a mention in one of their latest episodes which we have linked above.

Looking ahead to game week 23, the deadline for your transfers, tactics and captaincy decisions is January the 25th at 13:30pm and all the ways you can contact us, are included below...

  • Thnks Fr th Mmrs Game Week 21!
    Jan 17 2025

It's episode 22 and with the lads not seeing a game last week, Nick talks about his visit to to see the I'm Not Ok exhibition, a celebration of Emo culture at London's Barbican.

We then go from Fall Out Boys to Fall Out Moyes and talk all things FPL and as, fate would have it, our Premier League chat takes place with game week 21 well and truly in motion. Expect some "Gollette," or should that be Gillette Soccer Special style shouts as the goals go in for the likes of Chelsea, West Ham and Nottingham Forest.

Speaking of Forest, the lads continue their plaudits for the Kiwi legend that is Chris Wood as he continues his fine run of form. We also talk Everton, Newcastle United and Manchester United as we reference game week 21 and look ahead to 22.

Matt does all this by referencing his podcast of the week which is Beyond the Sidelines and subsequently regrets not taking on the advice of Corey, Pilot, KSR and Els when it comes to bringing in the Red Devils's very Ahmad Diallo.

There is also a shout out for the AFC Wimbledon audio fanzine which is the 9YrsPodcast

There are tangents aplenty in what is something of a lively episode and we finish, as ever, with the transfers, tactics and captaincy changes deadline. These details, as well as how you can get in touch with us, is included below...

  • All Things Equal and Balanced
    Jan 10 2025

The lads start 2025 by recounting their lack of non-league adventures with the games between AFC Croydon Athletic V Sheppey United and Whitehawk V Lewes being called off due to the weather. However, before hastening up the football pyramid, Matt and Nick recount their Christmas break trip to see Balham FC take on Tooting and Mitcham at the Imperial ground. This episode all features clips from the game including Tooting's winning goal at the end of the pod. Other audio also includes Matt and Dad marvelling at Nick's large, but incredibly comfy looking, fleece that he wore during the game on what was a very cold day.

We then move onto talk all things FPL as the brother's analyse their game week 19 and 20 performances. Team Tok continue to perform well, while it is a case of what could have been for Matt's troops and their spluttering season. Matt's continued poor form leads Nick to compare his Team to Tottenham with the older sibling needing "all things" to be "equal and balanced" if he is to make anything of this campaign.

The brothers then talk about their game week 21 plans which include thoughts on Crystal Palace and Chelsea assets. Nick also discusses his plans whilst referring to his Tik-Tok of the week which is FPL Mowgs.

When it comes to transfers, tactics and captaincy choices, it's "choose 'em next Tuesday" at 6pm on the 14th of January. Full details of how to contact us is also included below...

  • "Let's Hope It's a Good One..."
    Dec 31 2024

In our last episode of 2024, Matt and Nick talk about their respective game week 18 performances as well as how their teams are doing mid-way through game week 19. While the Team Tok juggernaut keeps on rolling, there are signs of life that Team Pod may still have a good end to the season. That is if Matt can stop leaving his better players on the bench.

Amongst his New Year's resolutions, Matt has also vowed to not make any changes to his FPL Team on Boxing Day as he has a tradition of making mistakes on the 26th of December. This year, he transferred in Pedro Neto instead of Enzo Fernandes, not that it made much difference with Chelsea's festive form being decidedly patchy. Speaking of which, please excuse a couple of glitchy internet moments on this episode with Nick sounding a bit like a robot at minute 4:10.

The new year is often about predictions and Nick's declaration that Ipswich are better than Manchester United seems to have been realised after the Monday game week 19 fixtures. These saw the Red Devils going down 0-2 to Newcastle and the Tractor Boys beating title chasing Chelsea. Amidst the criticism of these historically big teams, there is also praise for high flying Nottingham Forest, Fulham and AFC Bournemouth who are all competing for Europe next season.

There are also clips from Matt, Nick and Dad's trip Balham FC VS Tooting and Mitcham at the Imperial Ground. Technically, it was an away day for the Terrors, however, they are currently ground sharing with Balham who previously played at AFC Croydon's Mayfield Stadium. Cue lots of "hilarious" jokes from Matt about Tooting being intimidated as the away side.

With 2025 on the horizon, Matt and Nick finish the pod by wishing the listeners a happy new year and suggest that, one easy new year's resolution is to join us in the FPL Pod VS Tok league. You can find full details about this, as well as the transfer deadline below...

  • A Flurry of Festive Fixtures
    Dec 24 2024

There's no rest for these Merry Gentleman as Matt and Saint Nick, (he does have the beard for it), dive straight in talk about their respective game week 17 performances. Whilst Team Tok win again, there are reasons to be joyful and triumphant for Team Pod as a haul from the Egyptian King, Mo Salah, provides some long awaited green arrows for Matt's beleaguered squad.

The lads then discuss their plans for game weeks 18 and 19 with both brothers promising to ring the Carol Bells of change and make some shrewd signings to strengthen their teams for this busy Christmas schedule. There also promises to be Boxing Day Blues, of the Chelsea variety, as Matt and Nick both look to bring in the bargain that is Enzo Fernandez to bolster their midfields.

This episode also features more clips from the University of Brighton's SAS Choir with Procedentem Sponsum starting the proceedings (4:44), followed by Ó,gyönyörű szép titokzatos éj, which is partly included for the Tik-Tok reference at 15:34. The Choir then sing us out with Silent Night at the end of the podcast.

Given that we are headed into the part of the year where all the days blur together, we thought it was especially important to provide the transfer deadlines for game weeks 18 and 19, which are: Thursday the 26th of December at 11:00am (game week 18) and game week 19 is Sunday the 29th of December at 1:00pm.

  • Dazed and Confused
    Dec 19 2024

In an episode that is part rock 'n' roll and part festive special, Matt and Nick talk about their respective game week 16s as well as the Premier League fixtures ahead.

In perhaps what is the low point of his season, Matt recounts how more poor decision making cost him 17 points this week. While he admits that he did consider resigning as Manager of Team Pod after benching Lewis Hall and missing out on his plethora of points whilst playing Rayan Aït-Nouri who "achieved" a -2, Matt has resolved to do better in the second half of the season. He has started his recovery by choosing the Gianni Butticè Podcast as his pod of the week.

With celebrity fan Robert Palmer being in the stands at the Molineux to witness Wolves' capitulation against Ipswich, the brothers squeeze in as many Led Zeppelin puns into the episode as possible. You will be Dazed and Confused by the end of it! Matt also persists with his Pep Guardiola impression as he empathises with City's own run of bad form.

Conversely, Nick continues to put in strong performances as Manager of Team Tok and, in response to Matt's admission that he may need to take in more stats and spreadsheets to turn his season around, he details his approach by stating: "I watch TikTok's, I drink vodka and I'm winning!"

With Matt needing some kind of Christmas miracle to turn his season around, he sees an opportunity with the long-awaiting Mystery Chip being revealed as the Assistant Manager Chip. The brothers analyse this new asset which will be available from game week 24. Will this provide the much needed boost for Matt and Team Pod?

With the lads still waiting on their podcast music, the interludes in this week's show are provided by the SAS Choir and features renditions of "God Rest You, Merry Gentlemen" (00:00), "Es ist ein Rose Entrsprungen" (6:52), "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" (22:58), "Jingle Bells" (38:54) and "We Wish you a Merry Christmas!" (45:33).

  • Poor Performance from Hamlet
    Dec 13 2024

In this week's episode, Nick regales the pod about his underwhelming experience of non-league football action when, due to storm Darragh, he had to switch from the Mayfield to Champion Hill to see Dulwich Hamlet take on the far superior Dover Athletic. The lack of atmosphere at the game leads Nick to conclude that if it comes to watching Dulwich or no football that weekend, he'd take his chances and not watch a game at all. Dulwich fans, you know how to contact us if you disagree!

Ahead of discussing all things Premier League, Matt talks about making time to see more Sussex based football as well as overcoming his aversion to watching Brighton and Hove Albion. Despite being a Chelsea fan, maybe those trips to Selhurst Park as a youngster sewed the seeds of bias against the Seagulls.

Matt's miserable season continues as the lads talk about their game weeks 14 and 15 and it's made all the worse when the new listeners to the Pod VS Tok league also beat beat him. It can only get better right?

There's genuinely good FPL advice as the lads look to GW 16 and Nick talks Liverpool and double game weeks. He also talks about his Tik-Tok of the week, FPL Fran. We finish the episode by wishing, former Tooting and Mitcham player and current West Ham forward, Michail Antonio all the best in his recovery.

The first footie clip in this episode is from Dulwich V Dover, the remaining sound bites are more clips from the brother's visit to the Cherry Red to see AFC Wimbledon take on Accrington Stanley. As it may be a little while before we see any live football, we would appreciate any recordings that you have from matches where you have seen you local team! We'd love to hear them with a view to featuring them on the pod, so please do email them over!
