Při cestě z dolů v Jílovém u Prahy se ztratila truhlice plná zlata. Přeprava nákladu s bohatstvím v hodnotě celých severních Čech byla držena v přísném utajení. Zlato totiž mířilo do rukou rakouských pánů a mělo sehrát důležitou roli ve válce proti uherskému králi Bélovi.

Zločin byl proveden pouhé dva dny před příjezdem krále, jenž se má zúčastnit slavnostního vysvěcení relikvie, takže celá kauza hrozí pěknou ostudou. V krátkém čase se vrší další zločiny - vraždy zemana Jan ze Střelče, lemberského kaplana a zlatníka Ruprechta z Jablonného.
