About this listen

LOVE is THE ONE THING you want, but for some reason, it is also THE ONE THING you can’t seem to have. Relationships to you feel like either a “remedy” or a “poison”? The anxious (ambivalent) attachment style might have been giving you the solo emotional roller-coaster ride.

This book is a personal journey of a woman who has suffered from the anxious attachment style without knowing it for years. Throughout the years, she has navigated her life and “relationships” with this psychological condition. She has developed many side effects that attract all sorts of toxic “situationships.” Through this self-reflective journal, you will listen to the perspective of a preoccupied adult woman and the typical anxious attachment signs, including:

  • Relational patterns
  • Frequent need to please
  • Boundary issues
  • Trigger-based reactions
  • Fear of abandonment and rejection
  • Consuming fixation on relationship
  • Low life satisfaction

This is not a typical self-help workbook but is a relatable story one can hear without going to a support group. By sharing her personal journey, the author hopes to shed light on the adult anxious attachment style and help those and those whose loved ones are experiencing similar behavioral patterns and emotional distress to heal and to have peace in love.

Self healing through a narrative

This was an interesting listen due to its style. While the book itself advertises as a workbook, the steps to healing are told through a narrative (the authors memoir basically) which I really liked. It’s hard sometimes to understand tips without examples. short and sweet book about anxious attachment. I learned a lot in such a short amount of time

Love the story

I absolutely adore You Don't Have Bad Luck, You Just Have Anxious Attachment & Fear of Abandonment by Valor Quetzal! This book does an amazing job of exploring the anxious attachment style and how it can lead to unhealthy "situationships," and it does so through a deeply personal and relatable story. One takeaway I had from the audiobook is that it's important to be mindful of the relational patterns, boundary issues, and trigger reactions that come with an anxious attachment style. This book was a great reminder that I'm in control of my own attachment style and behaviors, and I'm thankful for that. The narrator Maya James did a fantastic job of bringing the words of this book to life. I would highly recommend this audiobook to anyone who is struggling with their own anxious attachment style, or to anyone who loves someone with this style.

Love Isn't Always Fair

This was a quick and easy listen audiobook where the author tells her personal journey with love. I found the stories compelling and wanted to listen to more about each relationship. As someone who has had an anxious attachment style, I really connect with understanding sticking around in a toxic relationship because the fear of change and loneliness is too much stress to deal with. Overall, there is a silver lining because we are all learning from our mistakes, and the author also points out things she has learned along the way.

A great book

I love the style of writing. It feels like a memoir but specifically to a single topic. It’s almost as a friend talking about a similar experience and what they did to work through it. The book feels good and is well done. Recommend this for anybody feeling anxious and needing a friend.

Very relatable!

I felt like my life story of relationships was being read to me out loud. 🤦🏽‍♀️ The stories are quite relatable and draw your attention. Although the author says this wasn’t a book about how to heal through these situationships, just hearing about her trials and knowing I and tons of people reading this are not alone in their experiences is a type of healing, in my opinion.
