About this listen
From watching his colleague get shot in the testicles by a jealous producer to running Hollywood's most successful television studio, Harris Katleman had a front row seat in the development of the television industry. Destined to become a classic account of the business side of entertainment, this book shares what really happened in the early careers of Hollywood stars and the development of iconic programs.
Through a number of hilarious accounts, Harris Katleman shares his journey from office boy to talent agent to television producer, and finally to studio head at both MGM and 20th Century Fox. Along the way, we meet industry giants including Rupert Murdoch, Bob Iger, Barry Diller, Marvin Davis, Kirk Kerkorian, Mark Goodson, and Lew Wasserman.
You Can't Fall Off the Floor goes beyond the story of a life in Hollywood. It is the story of crucial developments - how motion picture film libraries were opened for television licensing, how The Simpsons was birthed, and much more. It is also a collection of vital life lessons for anyone aspiring to establish a career in Hollywood.
The names are so famous and the stories so lively that this book plays like it was written about today's Hollywood.

Dig deep and you will find the most compelling argument for working together: Happiness. In business there are always unique individual achievers, but pull down the veil and you'll often find someone alongside them. Michael Eisner does just that in Working Together. Using his own collaboration with Frank Wells at Disney as a launching point for examining other famously successful partnerships, Eisner offers us an intimate and deeply personal look at some of the most rewarding business partnerships.

Barely out of film school, Rob Long struck the jackpot and landed a job on the phenomenally successful TV sitcom Cheers. However, with the demise of the show, Long was faced with the question, "Is there life after Cheers?" Mercilessly witty about the daunting process of setting up a new series and getting it on air, these two audiobooks tell the absurd tale of what came next.

Caddyshack is one of the most beloved comedies of all time, a classic snobs vs. slobs story of working-class kids and the white-collar buffoons that make them haul their golf bags in the hot summer sun. It has sex, drugs, and one very memorable candy bar, but the movie we all know and love didn't start out that way, and everyone who made it certainly didn't have the word classic in mind as the cameras were rolling.

Story
Ever since Donald Trump entered the presidential race - in a press conference attended by paid actors, in which he slandered Mexican immigrants - he has dominated headlines, becoming the unrestrained id at the center of one of the most bizarre and alarming elections in American history. It was not always so. In 1996, longtime New Yorker writer Mark Singer was conscripted by his editor to profile Donald Trump. At that time Trump was a mere Manhattan-centric megalomaniac, a failing casino operator mired in his second divorce.

In the past decade, Hollywood has endured a cataclysm on a par with the end of silent film and the demise of the studio system. Stars and directors have seen their power dwindle, while writers and producers lift their best techniques from TV, comic books, and the toy biz. The future of Hollywood is being written by powerful corporate brands like Marvel, Amazon, Netflix, and Lego, as well as censors in China. Ben Fritz chronicles this dramatic shakeup with unmatched skill, bringing equal fluency to both the financial and entertainment aspects of Hollywood.

Just a great story to listen to
It is a great book about the career Harris Katleman, whom I did not know before, but who apparently was very influential in the movie business. The book has a good rhythm, and it is entertaining. It has a lot of crazy stories, I especially appreciated them, as I don’t know the background of hit movies or TV series, how they were conceived and so on. There are also some basic, but valuable business lessons in it, a bit old school, but I suppose some lessons are just evergreen. It was also well performed on audible.
So overall I really recommend this book if you want to listen to interesting stories from the world of business in the film industry.

What A Life!
I wasn't familiar with his name, but of course I am with his life's work. This is a great memoir and I suspect a piece of history for an era of Hollywood that may be behind us. This is one I will listen to a second time. Thanks for the memories, Mr. Katleman. Kaine Riggan

So, You Want To Work In Show Business
Let me say at the beginning the author’s of this volume are probably not going to like this review. One of the goals of this book is to give people interested in working in the field of the movies and television tips on how to be successful in the industry From an execution standpoint everything about the book is excellent. What else do I like about the volume? It shows humanity how we really are. What do I not like about this book? It shows humanity how we really are. Don’t get me wrong this book has value as long as we keep in mind the wisdom of a Biblical verse Romans 3 :23 The slippery slope of ethics and morals someone has to negotiate in order to work in this business in my opinion is definitely going to b be a challenge to anyone’s character and will ultimately undermine and corrupt it. I don’t care who you are..The subject of this book is just a typical human being like ourselves who used what I believe to be deceit and what he termed to be in at least one instance in the book a white lie to get what he needed.I AM NOT SAYING HE IS UNUSUALLY MORALLY CORRUPT! What I am saying is what you have to do to get ahead in this business will cause you to compromise your ethics and morals in order to get ahead. I think this narrative illustrates that quite well. So,you want to work in show business. Be careful. You may sell your soul in the process.
P.S. If you want to know what show business is really like and what it is all about this book is invaluable.
