Intriguing

Interesting twists and turns. Can run a little slow at times and be packed with action where more context would have been beneficial. Leaves a lot to explore in future books.

Enjoyable Thriller

I liked the storyline and the characters and it was well written and enjoyable enough to keep listening through the end.

I will be moving on to the next book in the series since this one was left with a cliff hangar. =)

Top Favorite Series Ever

I didn’t not think I could love anything better than the Albertini Files. But I do! Narrator and plot are superb.

Had me hooked!

I really appreciated the way this was written and preformed! It was a little slow at times but all the action parts made it worth it!

Great Characters

If you've read any of this author's previous books, you have a pretty good idea what to expect here. An over-protective, super bossy alpha male and an amazing, capable woman with brains and courage. It's a winning combo for me, that's why I love this author so much. I've got to say, she really may have outdone herself this time.

Laurel Snow is a fascinating character. She's beyond brilliant. She's strong, no-nonsense, and good at her job. Well, when they let her in the field, that is. She's needing the help of a brooding fish and wildlife officer who is a loner by choice. He really doesn't want to interact with others. But Laurel isn't going to let that concept fly. She's told Huck's the best, and she's going to have his support, whether he wants to give it or not.

They're both pretty complex characters with ghosts in their pasts and not-so-awesome stuff in their current lives, as well. But both of them are committed to bringing criminals to justice. That's about all they seem to have in common, but it's a start.

This novel almost defies genre placement. The author is known for her romantic suspense, and this can certainly fall into that category. But it's a psychological thriller as well, spooling out in disconcerting ways as the truth is slowly uncovered. It's also very definitely a thriller, as Huck and Laurel uncover seriously nasty things the more rocks they turn over. Whatever you wish to categorize it as, one thing's certain: it's a great read. I'll be waiting for more from Laurel Snow and Huck Rivers.

I enjoyed this book but didn’t love it. I’ll definitely listen to the next one when it’s released. I’m hoping the few things I didn’t like will settle with the development of the series.

Loved this!!!

What a great read! It's a thriller/suspense that looks like it will be a continued series. The case is solved, but the relations of the main characters are not.

The heroine is my absolute favorite. She was fascinating and I loved how she reacted to a lot of the situations in this, especially her reactions to the hero. She's a child prodigy that has become an FBI agent profiler. You could say her personality is unique. Some would say she was strange but what makes her strange in others eyes is that she doesn't let her emotions dictate her reactions. She thinks very logically and sees more into people's words instead of taking personal insult. She's also very upfront with people, no game playing or hinting. She was just a refreshing character to read about.

The hero is a bit harder to connect too. He's big, gruff and closed off. He really doesn't want to be around people to the point of being rude, and yet he is basically a hero. His work is saving people and you can tell he truly cares, he just wants to be left alone. He is also upfront with people but like I sad in more of a rude way. I can already see that the heroine is softening him just because she reacts so differently to people than others. I think that's going to make him open up more.

I think that because of the way the hero/heroine are, the romance in this series is going to be more of a slow burn. Now usually I want more with a couple, but the suspenseful plot was pretty exciting to read on its own that any romance we got felt like a bonus. There is also some pretty interesting side characters that I'm really looking forward to what's going to come next. Great read!!

Great start to series

I love Rebecca Zanetti’s books and this was no exception. I found the characters unique and so interesting - I especially love Laurel’s character. Looking forward to reading more of the series.

Good book!

This book is in Audible Plus so I wasn't taking a risk in adding it to my library. I was pleasantly surprised by the storyline, the development, the main character Laura. I like the narrator and she changes voices well, so I usually know which character I'm listening to.

My only problem: I know the author usually has no say over the narrator and audio of their books. I wish somebody would listen to all books, though, and make adjustments where necessary. Narrators can make or break an audiobook. It's hard to say if the narrator, Audible, or the publishers of the audiobook dropped the ball, but the volume of this book changes through the book so I'm constantly turning it up or down. That can be fixed so I wish somebody would pay attention. Maybe the next book in this series will show an improvement.
