About this listen
Piloting a shuttle through a deadly solar flare, Jean Grey saves the X-Men, but is possessed by one of the universe's most powerful forces - the Phoenix. As she adapts to her new powers, the mutant team launches an assault against the clandestine organization known as the Hellfire Club. Once inside, however, Jean is tricked by the villain Mastermind into betraying her teammates. She becomes first the Hellfire Club's Black Queen and then Dark Phoenix, as the power to destroy worlds bursts forth uncontrolled.
Shooting into deep space, Jean destroys an entire star system, then encounters a cruiser piloted by the spacefaring race the Shi'ar. When the cruiser is obliterated, the Shi'ar queen decrees that the Phoenix must die. But only the X-Men can hope to stop Dark Phoenix and save Jean Grey.

What drives the Man Without Fear? Matt Murdock was raised by a single father, an over-the-hill prizefighter with one last chance to make good - a chance that cost him his life. Taunted and tormented by other children, Matt's life was irrevocably altered after he was blinded by radioactive materials while saving the life of an old man. The payoff? An unbreakable will and a keen intelligence, helping focus the super-senses with which he was blessed during the accident. His story is one of love, pain, disappointment, and strength.

Hey, hey, book lovers, take off those big thick glasses - this is Deadpool speaking! Sorry Marvel, somethin' happened to your copy guy. Anyway, this is my first prose novel, and they got this dude Stefan Petrucha to write it. He's good people. He's written novels and comics. But here's the thing: This book is about dogs. Dogs that turn into big nasty monsters. And then I gotta kill 'em. Thing is, I like killing people - the ones that deserve it, anyway - but I won't kill dogs. So that's what we call a character dilemma.

The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. In the beginning, the gods destroyed the world. Five hundred years later, things haven’t gotten much better for humans. The demigods that were left behind to guard over humanity have been using them as fodder for an endless civil war between themselves, and the humans just go on dutifully slaughtering each other, battle after battle. It’s not all bad, though. Perry McGown makes his living off those bloody, stinking battlefields. He works on a crew that reclaims all the spent shell casings. But if anyone found out that he was a deserter from the war, he’d be executed for heresy.

You define life or it defines you. In Shawn Speakman’s case, it was both. Lacking health insurance and diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2011, Shawn quickly accrued a massive medical debt that he did not have the ability to pay. That’s when New York Times best-selling author Terry Brooks offered to donate a short story that Shawn could sell to help alleviate those bills—and suggested he ask the same of his other writer friends. Unfettered is the result: An anthology built in order to relieve that debt, featuring short stories by some of the best fantasy writers in the genre.

I'm not your average girl. My best friend is my switchblade. My favorite hobby is using it on the cruel, the abusive, and anyone who gets on my bad side. I'm a convicted murderer with a chip on my shoulder and a dangerous lack of restraint. And then there's Zak. His rap sheet makes mine look tame. The bounty on his head is worth more money than I'll ever make, and the deadly fae that shadow his every step wield more power than I'll ever know. Not every man can handle a magitech gauntlet that speaks in floating silver text, or a handful of women with unique...needs. I’m not every man. When a bad blind date got worse - like, interdimensional lightning storm worse - I woke up to a realm of dragon women, magical kobolds, and a playful monkey girl with a painful secret. I also accidentally (totally on purpose) stole an ancient artifact in the form of a black gauntlet that bonded with my body and unlocked various new abilities. So what’s the catch? The glove wasn’t meant for me. It was meant for the fabled Hero of Silura.

Taunted and tormented by other children, Matt's life was irrevocably altered after he was blinded by radioactive materials while saving the life of an old man. The payoff? Stays True To The Story!
At least the one I read years ago. I've heard that there have been many versions of this story over the years. This version was based on a book I read some time ago. The only part I didn't remember was the first act. But what follows was in that story. If you're a Marvel of an X-Men fan you'll most likely enjoy this.

A favorite story of mine since I was a child.
Who doesn’t love Jean Grey? She’s smart, brave, heroic and selfless. The story begins with her planning to pilot a space craft. She sacrifices herself to rescue her friends, her mentor and lover. The stories epilogue grabs you and takes you on a roller coaster ride as Jean is transformed into life incarnate, the Phoenix. Don’t delay you won’t want to miss this story.

If you are a fan of the comics, you will be happy
For any fans who were disappointed by the two failed attempts to make a Dark Phoenix movie, this audio book does a good job of telling the story and can fill the void until Marvel tries to make a third Dark Phoenix movie.

could of been voiced better
the narrator was the only struggle. didn't like her character voicing but if you can get past that the story was great.

Incredible adaptation!
This audio book had the nearly-impossible task of adapting one of the greatest story arcs in comics. in my opinion, it exceeded my expectations, and even improved on the original text in a few ways.

Enjoyed overall, with one big caveat
If your first exposure to the X-Men was the MCU, you’ll be fine.
On the other hand if you’re an OG reader from when these comics were first published, a warning. They decided to set everything in the current day, and I found references to things like cell phones and the internet jarring. These were published 50+ years ago, decades before these things were around.
Other than that, they did a good job.

FUN READ
THIS STORY IS A MORE MODERN TAKE ON THE DARK PHOENIX SAGA FROM THE 80/90S, THIS VERSION OF THE STORY HAS BETTER CHARACTER GROWTH THAN ITS 90S COUNTER PART. IF YOU READ THE COMICS OR SAW THE 90S CARTOONS I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS NOVELISATION.
HAPPY READING
