Publisher's summary

When the world ended, former Army Ranger Connor “Tav” McTavish thought he’d prepped for everything. He was wrong.

When roving gangs destroy all semblance of law and order, and the strong take what they want from the weak, Connor will find himself as the sole protector of an all girls' college hidden away in the Green Mountains of Vermont.

Now, his only chance at survival is to show group female liberal arts snowflakes what a real man can do and turn all four of them into survival and combat experts.

Excellent Book

This is a nice book involving a type of apocalyptic event that takes most equipment that uses electricity down. A former Ranger runs into 4 women and a handyman. They learn to survive in their new world.

Fun post Apoc series

Tav comes out of the woods after living off the land for a year only to discover everything has gone to hell. He stumbles upon a group of survivors about to be robbed, killed or worse and decides to jump into action. This leads to him to help a small group of people learn to survive off what is available and try to pick up information where he can about what happened.

This was an enjoyable listen and I really enjoyed hearing the characters interact. Christopher Boucher and Jessica Threet did a great job, and Threet, in particular, had some great delivery in the character conversations that brought a smile to my face. The characters all have varied voices and great delivery that made them just hanging out enjoyable to listen to. The scene after a confrontation where Tara dropped a random exclamation of eww was acted out in a way that earned a laugh from me. I look forward to anything they work on in the future, and it seems they are working with Eric Vall on a lot of his books, so there will be plenty to hear from them.

The world building is seemingly going to come in a later book, and this one is focused on a very particular area in the world. The characters are learning to cope with their new reality and aren't rushing out to learn what has happened in the world. Tav teaches the people he meets how to build a small pleasant life, and that is what the majority of this first book focuses on. The challenges they encounter setting up this area.

This is a fun book for anyone looking for some light escapism in the post-apoc genre or a fan of Eric Vall's. The book has left the group in a good spot for future books and plenty of mysteries or conflicts left to tackle.

awesome

Fantastic story! well written and performed!
if you are worried about useless vulgarity dont be. though there are adult scenes i found it to be a perfect blend of tame and erotic. would definitely reccomend it even to people outside of the harem fan base.

This book is for you...

If you are looking for a juvenile sex fantasy. Worse than B movie dialogue.

Another great listen

Eric Vall has quickly become one of favorite authors and this one is another great listen and this one brings a little different story, no magic or demons just regular people trying to get by. The narrators are a great team that brings the story to life.

Excellent story. Couple issues with the recording.

The good FAR out shadows the bad

The good:
The story is well written and thought out. I have no issues whatsoever with the book

The narration gives live to the characters and adds depth.

The bad:
There is a blooper during the first sex scene where the female reader breaks character. There are several mistakes with pronunciation and just misread words. The male reader seems to add a bit extra “gravel” to Tav’s voice.

That’s all fine. What irritates me about the narration is the pronounce each word in whole so “we can not” instead of “we can’t” it pulls you from the immersion because it doesn’t sound natural. I’m sure there just reading word for word but it’s frustrating.
