About this listen

For more than a decade, Clan Skyhunter suffered under a cruel, power-hungry leader who did anything to advance his agenda. He was finally caught in an illegal scandal and sent to prison, and now the dragon-shifter clan in the south of England is ready for a new leader. And so the trials begin....

Asher King had been locked away under the former clan leader for speaking out against his cruelty. Now free, he wants to win the leadership and lead his clan to a better future. However, being the nephew of the old leader isn't easy, and if that wasn't enough to overcome, he's still recovering from the torture he endured while imprisoned. Still, he's determined to win and keep his clan from being disbanded by the humans, even if it means competing against his old teenage girlfriend and denying how much he still wants her.

Newly returned from her stay in America, Honoria Wakeham puts herself up as a candidate to be clan leader. Not everyone approves of a female candidate, but that doesn't faze her. The old clan leader killed her parents and in order to fully heal, she wants to bring the clan together and implement her plans to bring them into the 21st century. What she didn't count on was running into Asher King, the male she loved over a decade ago, before she'd been sent to stay with relatives in America for her safety.

It doesn't take long for Asher and Honoria to give in to their attraction, but from it springs an idea that may be the best of all. Can they win the leadership trials and keep their clan together? Or will one of the other candidates win and try to keep Skyhunter in the past?

Time to reinvent

Winning Skyhunter is the first release in Jessie Donovan's new Stonefire Dragons Universe Series, We started with the Stonefire Clan, then learned about the Lochguard Clan and now we are finding out more about the Skyhunter clan. A clan which is filled with fantasy, drama, love, action and of course dragons. It's paranormal romance at it's best and so worth both reading and listening to.

Brian J. Gill has once again done an excellent narrating job of bringing the characters to life. I love the different pitches of voice he uses throughout the story. His dragon voices are amazing and enjoyable to listen to.

Asher King and Honoria Wakeham are the main focus of this book and they are both headstrong, intelligent, complex, stubborn as hell characters who sizzle together and make the story so much more interesting. Their chemistry is off the charts undeniable and explosive. Their banter between each other and especially their inner dragons is highly addictive and totally hilarious.

I recommend this audio book to anybody who loves reading about dragons. Jessie has once again outdone herself in writing a beautiful heartfelt, complex, action filled clan story.

Back from the brink

This was a great story. Skyhunter has finally gotten rid of Marcus King. Now the clan just has to work to get back on their feet. They are having a trial for leadership. Let the games begin.
This will be different than any other. The DDA is watching very close and other neighboring clans have input. Two of the candidates are sweethearts from a simpler time.
You have to read all the twists and turns to the end. It is quite the ride. You will not be disappointed.
Love me some dragons.
Brian once again did a phenomenal job. The fact that he can pull off so many dialects is amazing and makes the story that much better.

Skyhunter

Ria and Ash are a couple to be reckoned with, especially once they decide to team up as co-leaders for the trials of Skyhunter. Their journey is one of growth and understanding.

The narrator has performed fantastically, with voices pitched depending on gender. The narrator brings the story alive with their performance and allowed me, as the listener, to sink into and experience the story on a different level.

We cannot get enough dragon shifters!

Dragons, dragons, dragons! We just cannot get enough of dragon-shifters. In Jessie Donovan’s dragon world, the Skyhunter clan is left in turmoil at the end of Marcus King’s terrible reign. Asher and Honoria were teenage sweethearts, now they are competing to become the new leader of clan Skyhunter. As their passion begins to reignite, they realize they are better as a team and fight to lead the clan together. Instead of fighting each other for dominance, both in bed and in the throne room, they work together and take turns being on top! This book is a beautiful example of how two dominant leaders can work together and share authority, and some great sex! This was a small taste of the dragon world created by Jessie and we can’t wait to read more. In this episode we discuss first loves/crushes and the difference between youthful love and the love that comes with age.

Winning Skyhunter and Love

I loved the story when I read it and now that I've listened as my "reread" I love it even more. The narration is good with the different accents and both male and female parts--great job.

The cruel clan leader was gone. Punished for his crimes but the remnants of his rule left the clan leaderless and in shambles. Asher planned to lead them back into the thriving clan he remembers from his youth. Something or someone else he remembers is Honoria, his teenage crush. Would she remember their times together?

She'd never forgotten him. At the same time as her parents were sacrificed by the old leader, Asher had been captured and tortured for years. Her loving parents saw the future and sent her to family in America. She, too, was back to reinstate the clan before it was closed and the dragons scattered.

Each signed up for the new clan leader trials. They were always stronger when they teamed up. He was one male who gave her credit for her strength and intelligence. When she suggested they go to the trials as co-leaders his resistance was short lived. Now all they had to do was win the trials, pass the tests, convince the council they were the best option, and overcome the enemies against them. Then they could mend the pieces of the clan back together and get them to trust the other clans. Would their strong feelings and desires for each other help them or hinder?

The author has created a world of dragons and humans like no one else. These beings are strong willed (translate stubborn) very sexual, loyal, loving and protective of their family and clans. We get a visit from some of the old friends we've met and loved from earlier stories as well as to watch two dragons who have suffered mentally and physically join to make their clan thrive again.

The story is as good as the beautiful cover.

SDU Book #1 was Great!

What a great way to start introducing the new clans of dragon shifters. I really enjoyed this story. Although Bram and Finn were not in the forefront, they played a key role within the storyline. Honoria and Asher's strength, love and teamwork can be seen and admired.

Winning Skyhunter

Ok, first I just want say I LOVE every story in this amazing Universe, and this one is no exception at all! With that being said I sort of felt a bit let down with this one for some reason even though a thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't know if it was because I was REALLY hoping for the "fated mate" link to be discovered (this is a very important part of these stories for me...especially with the younger couples), or if I just needed a bit more information about how things changed after the trials or what. I also felt like the resistance of the former leaders followers wasn't as climactic as I was expecting it to be. I still ABSOLUTELY LOVED this story! This is just one of the very few that left me wanting a bit more I guess. the narrator was WONDERFUL! He really brought everything to life! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone!
