About this listen

Ella Rivers hasn't been okay since the day her mother died.

One wintry night, lost in grief, Ella goes for a long, cold walk. It's three o'clock in the morning, and she decides to duck into a gas station to get warm and, perhaps, buy a cup of tea. But when the power cuts out, Ella's life is changed forever.

Because, that night, she should have died. And she would have, were it not for the mysterious, white-haired woman who saves her life: Silver.

Silver is more intriguing - and attractive - than any woman Ella's ever known. She insists that she knew Ella's mother, and that she can help Ella find out “who she really is". But while Ella is deeply attracted to Silver, how can she possibly believe what Silver says?

After all, there's no such thing as werewolves.

Ella's life is in danger, and the woman who holds the key to her survival is as mysterious as she is intense. Ella can't predict what's going to happen next. All she knows is that this gorgeous, wild woman might just change her destiny....

Pure Joy

As with any book written by Bridget Essex and narrated by Marina Barrett this book was pure joy to listen to. This author and narrator pair together in a magical way and this book was no exception to their unique magic. The story and characters were a wonderful escape and I'm sorry it is done!

AMAZING!!!

I loved this book. It was great to escape the chaos, if only for a few hours. The author/narrator combo is flawless. The storyline is so... I can't find the words to describe how amazing it is. I wish I could find a love like that in my lifetime. To make things even better, my heart swells at the final message. It was the icing on the cake.

Huh.

Well it's been a while since a story hit me like that. Both the way it was written and the way it was read, it's not that you're being read a book, it's that you're being told a story. I haven't seen such a perfect mix of humor and seriousness in such a long while. A uncommon writing style for sure, but it was handled in such a way that it felt incredibly relatable. A wonderful work that I know I will definitely have to listen to again in the future. Beautifully done.

Perfect Escape from today

The narrator was amazing and the way the main character was written made it easy to connect with and fall in love with. This is the first time I've written a review about a book but I don't know. When she describes the feelings between the two main characters.... it feels the same as my wife and I.... well besides the fantasy part lol. I even enjoyed listening to the acknowledgments which is weird. Anyway would def recommend.

Entertaining!

Usually I don’t care for first person narrative, that said, I did enjoy this book. Bridget Essex wove a tale of the ordinary and fantastic. A young, grief-stricken woman roams the streets nightly to deal with the loss of her mother. She enters her usual convenience store only to witness some fantastical things: a dog, coyote, or wolf rummaging through trash bins; an eerie power outage and for real a glowing-eyed wolf! The narrator, Marina Barrett, was superb and really brought out the moments of incredulity upon Elle discovering wear wolves and vampires as well as having some cheeky inner dialogue that was pretty cute. The story is fast-paced and filled with romance and a couple twists. It is worth the credit!

Bad, just bad

Cheesier than I ever could have imagined, in all the wrong ways. Overdone attempts at prose that both make you wonder how healthy it is for people that just met and make you scratch your head when the word belly gets repeated over and over again at what’s supposed to be a dramatic moment. There were some valiant attempts at humor that fell flat because the narrator overdid the seductive tone. I don’t generally write scathing reviews, but save your money on this one.
