About this listen

At Santa Cruz Central High School, they called them the misfits, the outcasts, the weirdos. But most of us knew them as the Lost Boys....

Holden Parish survived his parents' horrific attempts to make him the perfect son. After a year's stint in a Swiss sanitarium to recover, he has vowed to never let anything, nor anyone, trap him again. Brilliant but broken, he seeks refuge behind alcohol, meaningless sex, and uses his wicked sense of humor to keep people away. He only has to ride out one year in the coastal town of Santa Cruz with his aunt and uncle before he inherits his billions and can make his escape and disappear.

Falling in love is not in the plans.

River Whitmore. Star quarterback of the Central High football team, Prom King, Mr. Popular, ladies' man. He leads the perfect life...except it's all a lie. His father has River's future in the NFL all planned out, while River's dream is to run the family business in the town that he loves. But his mother's illness is tearing the family apart and River is becoming the glue that holds them together. How can he break his father's heart when it's already shattering? River's carefully crafted façade explodes when he meets Holden Parish. A guy who dresses in coats and scarves year-round, drinks expensive vodka, and spends his free time breaking into houses for the fun of it. They're complete opposites. River seeks a quiet life, away from the spotlight. Holden would rather have dental surgery than settle down.

Holden's demons and River's responsibilities threaten to keep them apart, while their undeniable attraction crashes them together again and again, growing into something deep and real no matter how they resist.

Until one terrible night changes everything.

Love this couple!

A beautiful story about coming of age as a gay couple who faced many tragedies, but love prevails. Holden and River draw you in with their immediate attraction and self-discovery as their relationship develops in heart warming and wrenching ways!

Goodness these 2 just broke my heart into little pieces and thankfully by the time the ending came I was mended somewhat back together. Narration was good and very emotional. So So Good

Be Still My Heart

I absolutely love this book!! It was well written and the story flowed beautifully. I also loved the narration. They did such a wonderful job. At first, I wasn’t sure if I was going to listen to this because of some negative reviews, but they were WRONG!! Holden’s character was real and battled demons that I can’t even imagine enduring nor surviving. Miller’s heart was true and exactly what Holden needed.

Forever my babies 💘

I would put my life on the line for Holden and River. Seriously. I’ll defend them until I die. 💘

Emma, I don’t know what you keep putting in your books, but dang! I love them and you for putting them out there in the world.

The audiobook was unbelievable. Both narrators did such fantastic jobs with their roles. I’m honestly amazed. 🥰

I will immediately be inhaling the last book in this series, because I’m soooooo curious about Ronan and Shiloh. 💕

OMG So good

Eric London and Zachary Johnson did a phenomenal job narrating River & Holden. I felt these characters in my bones; their love, their pain, their struggles and their hard won HEA. It was a rather cathartic experience finishing this book on Mother's Day. Holden and River will forever have a piece of my heart. I'm so glad I listened to this as an audiobook because it really elevated the experience of this story for me. I have a physical copy to keep on my shelf as a trophy as well.

Great story lots of feels

It makes since why Holden wasn't there for river at times. Spoiler alert! But when his mom died? That was too much. Also the Holden voice by the river narrator was horrible, weak, lame and mousy. Not at all Holden.

Here for THE plot

I love a good spicy scene, but I’m always here for the plot. This book interlinks with Someday, Someday (another book written by Emma) so perfectly, without having read one before the other-they standalone so well, but explain so much together. A beautiful read/listen with just enough spice & heartache to leave you wanting more and more.. and more..
