About this listen

From the author of Three More Months comes a moving novel about hope, loss, the power of memories, and the enduring bonds of family.

It’s been two years and two months since trauma shattered hospital chaplain Isabel Myles’s world. Since that day, she has stopped answering calls. She’s shut out her family, friends, and coworkers. Even her faith seems to have faded. Except for her connection with her younger sister, Chantel, Isabel copes by forgetting. Then she takes on a summer job as a home caregiver for Opal, a dementia patient who is struggling to remember.

The more invested Isabel becomes in Opal’s vanishing world—and in her devastated grandson, Evan—the more open she is to forming bonds, old and new. She reaches out to her best friend. She repairs the damage between her and her estranged parents. And with Evan she feels emotions she thought were lost forever. But the trauma Isabel’s kept buried for so long will be rediscovered too. What Isabel learns could change her life again, forever. This time, though, she won’t have to face the past alone.

Loved the story

Until about half way through I loved this book and then the language got really bad. Sadly it ruined it for me. I will never understand why authors draw you in and then ruin their own art with such harsh and in-necessary language. Over all I love this author just not enough to put up with bad language

Angsty

Double whammy of angst with heavy themes of dementia and death. There’s humor that balances the weighty topics some.

The narrator sounds really young. Probably should have listened to it at normal speed.

A story of sisters’ love.

I had no idea where this story was heading. The protagonist has such a burden on her heart, not allowing herself the grace she deserves. Characters are well drawn, honest and human, making me chuckle, question & find tears silently make their way down my face. Enjoy.

Couldn't finish

Rarely give up on a book...but couldn't finish. Sappy....and narrator sounded like a little girl. Also, character s interactions were so predictable. Sorry.....

Overly long & melodramatic

I liked the aspect of her sister being a ghost. There was too much crying for my taste and references to characters constantly near to tears was tiresome.
