Acerca de esta escucha

When war comes to your planet, you fight, but not everyone fights for the same side. While Charles, the Quinn Corporation’s beleaguered CEO, fights to navigate the political intrigues of the other powers on the planet, Moses Smokoska and his little brother abandon their father’s homestead to put on armor and learn what it means to go to war.

The war might be fought among the stars and in the air, but it will ultimately be won on the ground, man-to-man and sword-to-sword, across a continent that spans the world.

This was my first experience with Emerson Fortier's work, and I was entertained by the story. The author has written about a planet whose inhabitants were involved in a war. There were two major protagonists who chose to fight in the war in different ways. I enjoyed Moses' story, but I thought that he was almost too perfect as he didn't seem to have any defects. M. A. Bray's narration was good, and his performance added to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Good Christian Science Fiction

This is more of a space opera than military sci-fi. Not as much action as the cover would make you think, though there is one large battle in it. The author does throw some Christianity at you with one of the character and it can be a bit in your face. Its not to bad though. All in all I did enjoy the listen. I will look forward to the next book.

Good, not what I was expecting.

A great start to this military sci-fi series! Emerson Fortier did a great job with this book and definitely set us up for the rest of the series. This is the first I have read/listened to any of his work and I was not dissapointed. This book started off a bit slow but moved into an entertaining action soon enough. Believable characters, good plot and storyline, and a great military sci-fi. I look forward to reading and listening to book 2! Audio Version: M A Bray did a great job bringing the MCs to life.

A great start to this military sci-fi series!

The story is good for a first book in a series and the use of religion enhanced character development without being preachy.

A good start for a potentially great series

Bit less action than I expected, however, I looked it up and saw that this is a 5 book series. Its definitely building to more. I listened to all of it today while working and it was enjoyable. M A Bray does a good job with the many characters. Would recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed!

If you like military sci-fi novels with well developed characters, a great plot, and logical adaptations of science then you won't regret this book. I love the balance of political intrigue and military adventure in the story. The novel has strong religious undertones but it's not overbearing.

My only gripe is that the characters adopt modern technology and develop military prowess with such ease that it is borderline absurd. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed the book and can't wait for the next one, and hopefully many more.

Refreshing take on military sci-fi.

Seemed like an interesting book and I made it most of the way through, but eventually I just couldn't take the narrator anymore. He does a good job giving different characters different voices, but other than that he's absolutely awful. There's a self conscious timbre to his voice that screams 'reading a story' rather than telling one, but I could deal with that even if I didn't care for it. What completely turned me off was his random mispronunciation of everyday English words. I'm not talking about obscure Biblical names, I'm talking about things like 'vague/vaguel'y and 'ragged.' I'll check it out on Kindle but there's no way I can recommend the audio edition.

Couldn't make it through

mechs fighting with swords, how could you go wrong? apparently add the most whinny/stupid hero with a narrator that apparently died before reading the book. that works. read all three books hoping that at some point it would get better. spoiler.... it gets worse.

boring book, worse narrator, want my time back
