About this listen

From the New York Times best-selling author of The Witcher: Reynevan - scoundrel, magician, possibly a fool - travels into the depths of war as he attempts to navigate the religious fervors of the 15th century.

When the Hussite leaders entrust Reynevan with a dangerous secret mission, he is forced to come out of hiding in Bohmeia and depart for Silesia. At the same time, he strives to avenge the death of his brother and discover the whereabouts of his beloved. Once again pursued by multiple enemies, he must contend with danger on every front.

Full of gripping action replete with twists and mysteries, seasoned with magic and Sapkowski's ever-present wit, fans of The Witcher will appreciate this rich historical epic set during the Hussite Wars.

An epic sequel in the Hussite trilogy

This book is riveting. Sapkowski has really outdone himself with the second book in the Hussite trilogy. Lots of intrigue and suspense are bound in this book. The way he describes these events of the 15th century almost makes them believable in this historical fiction novel. The realistic way in which he writes always leaves me guessing or thinking the worst might happen. Great book and Peter Kenny did a fantastic job as usual narrating this book! I highly recommend this book and look forward to the 3rd book!

Sapkowski kicks it up a couple notches w/WoG

I first read Tower of Fools after finishing up The Witcher series. I felt like the historical fiction departed quite a bit from The Witcher series. In terms of the level of fantasy and action that it had. I did enjoy it but there was a lot of conversation and dialogue and world building. With very little action, the characters, players, heroes, and sides were introduced and the story was set in motion. At the time I felt like why did it stop when it was just getting good. It didn't take long to find out. Warriors of God is why!

I didn't appreciate the world building at the time but reading through this book, I couldn't be more happy. excited to see some characters return. Sapkowski doesn't miss a detail. He doesn't waste character's at all. The action in the back half of this book is edge of your seat listening. I couldn't stop towards the end it was a 4hr run with no breaks. Amazing. The characters development is truly artistic, and the translation, names, places, even some of the singing here...which reminds me in case you didn't know: Peter Kenny is quite possibly the best narrator right now. His pronunciations of difficult names, places, different languages, and yes there are a few songs; he just kills it.

TDRL: Narrator was amazing, the story and character development so good. The pace was great, mystery, suspense, action, fantasy, this one checks multiple boxes. Worth the listen. Looking forward anxiously for the 3rd installment.

Better than the Witcher

I have been a member for over 8 years and have more than 1100 titles. I think in all of that time, with all of those books, I've written about 3 reviews. I can definitely see this series as a Netflix limited series. I enjoyed The Witcher series emencily, but this is leagues above.

Superb story and great narration

The second book in this series is as awesome as the first one.

I’m a big fan of the Witcher series and I’ve listened to all the Witcher books.

Compared to the Witcher, this story can be a bit harder to digest. A lot of names in Polish, Czech, German, French and a lot of sayings in Latin.

I didn’t understand everything all the time but I think that didn’t take much away from the story. You may want to pause and Google things from time to time - but I don’t think you absolutely need to in order to experience the story.

That said, I feel like I did learn a lot of history and improved my knowledge of the area quite a bit with the occasional Wikipedia search.

Based on my modest experience so far with the books I’ve listened to (about 20, I think) Peter Kenny is one of the best narrators out there, a master of his craft.

Outstanding

An outstanding sequel to Tower of Fools, which I enjoyed even more. I switch between reading and listening and keep a text version in front of me when listening because of so many foreign names and places but this has become part of the charm to me. Can’t wait for Book 3 to come out in English!

All about Christians slaughtering Christians

I enjoyed The Tower of Fools but finally gave up on this one about half way through. It's mainly about Christians slaughtering Christians in one massacre after another. Even the hero becomes just another cold blooded killer. It also has a lot of content in Latin and other languages which I don’t understand. Add in some really pointless singing and this book was a zero for me.
