About this listen

Zara Riddle is used to being woken up in the middle of the night by magical creatures. Being a witch is incredibly fun, but it does have a few drawbacks. Zara's powers make her appealing to the recently deceased, who are always showing up seeking her help. This witch is a real ghost magnet!

When Zara's resident telepathic wyvern wakes her up to announce there's a new ghost in the house, Zara is anything but surprised. She greets the new spirit, locates the crime scene, and notifies the authorities. All before the sun comes up. Zara's work is done. After all, the town's detective should be able to solve this homicide without her.

The detective, Theodore Bentley, has other ideas. He knows about Wisteria's secrets, but he's not the stubborn type who insists on doing everything himself. Why chase down a killer alone when you can have a powerful witch as a partner? He invites Zara to join him on the investigation. Zara accepts, because why not? She'll rest easier when the case is solved. Plus two heads are better than one, even if one of them is a mere human.

As the crime-fighting duo dig deeper into the town's secrets, both the human detective and the witch are shocked to discover a killer in their midst. When they underestimate the killer's powers, the tables are turned. In a heartbeat, everything changes.

Zara Riddle can only watch helplessly as someone she cares about saves the witch's life by sacrificing their own.

Wardens of Wisteria is book one of a new mini-series set in Angela Pepper's wickedly wild world of Wisteria Witches. If you're new to the series, you can start here if you'd like! This book is told from the point of view of Zara Riddle.

ANOTHER GIGGLE-FEST

WARDENS OF WISTERIA is the first book in the Wisteria Witches Mysteries – Daybreak trilogy. I wouldn’t try to jump into this out of order; I highly recommend reading all of the stories in this series and in the order of release.

Zara and her “monster” friends are fun, interesting, cool, and entertaining from first page to last. I have loved every story in this series, so far, and can’t imagine the good times ever ending. Zara makes witching and ghostly sleuthing fun; even as she mucks it up a bit.

There is so much of life squeezed into this story about the murder of a young man: emotion, family, friendship, humor, intelligence, and caring. The clues were well spaced and meaningful. As always with a Wisteria book, the humor was off the charts.

These will be my “I’ve got the blues. I need a pick me up,” re-read, go-to from now on.

My last note: Zara’s wyvern can wake me any time he likes. It’s certainly better than the dog whining!

Narration: I cannot say enough about Tiffany Williams as a narrator. She is the library lady of our youth. The one that made you race through the doors of your local public venue eager to enjoy a flying carpet of fantasy that only her voice could bring to life.

Note: While I received this book as a gifted audiobook copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

LOVE this series!!!

I read the first book on my kindle and was thrilled when I found the rest on Audible. The last series like this I enjoyed so much in print and Audible form was The Hallows series by Kim Harrison! I can’t wait to read the next books and hope there are many more to come.

Oh, this series keeps getting better and better.

So, after the way that the previous book ended, I have been dying to know what's going on with Zara's life and I wasn't disappointed with what I found in this book.

Zara's usual sense of humour shines through the whole book, and it makes even the direst of the moments kind of funny. So even when there is a decapitated man and a killer in the loose you'll find yourself smiling most of the time.

And that ending! OMG! Unexpected, but absolutely logical and perfectly shadowed twist.

And, as usual, Tiffany Williams does a superb job with the narration.

But now, I'm back to sit and wait for the next book :P

Great fun!

I don't usually read cozy mysteries but I thoroughly enjoyed this. I did not realize this wasn't the first book in the series but that did not hinder my enjoyment. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.

Narration was stellar! Definitely added to the fun and snark. I am also looking forward to listening to more of Tiffany William's narrations.

Zara tries to be a good witch.

Zara gets up to her usual shenanigans when another ghost turns up. Unfortunately she cast a spell that backfires and she has problems with some of her powers. At the same time she struggles with teenage angst and the decision on whether to tell Zoey about her real father. Steve is back and things get a little complicated with Bentley she works to solve another magical murder. Love this series and the narrator is phenomenal. Keep them coming! I received a free review copy of this book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
