About this listen

Independent beyond what's good for her, Isabella Moore leaves her brothers and parents in Prairie City in search of her true calling. Traveling to Haines, Oregon, by way of the historic Bourne-Haines Stage Road, she runs across the type of people from whom she'd been sheltered, leading to an accident and a man she'd only dreamed about. Blacksmith Gabriel Stone saw enough of death during the Civil War to last him a lifetime. To him, Isabella is a broken wildflower in need of his care-but caring for her may bring back unwanted memories of his former life as a doctor. And dare he entrust his heart to a woman filled with ideas of gold mining and adventure?

Leaves you wanting more!

What a great period story by Mary Vine! I love this quick listen. We meet Isabella going to her new job as a teacher when she is in an stagecoach accident and breaks her leg. Taken in by the local doctor, Gabriel, she begins to see what she truly wants out of her life. Bella, as we get to know has 6 brothers, so while sheltered to some extent, she has quite the independent streak. She is a smart, take charge kind of woman. Gabriel is also trying to figure out his own life, and a woman is not in his cards. But life does not always go as planned. Sweet, action packed, and great characters, we see these two grow and mature.

Kathleen Li does a fantastic job with the narration of this. She has such a great variety of voices, each character is easily distinguished. There are a lot of male characters in this too, and she nails each one, giving the outlaws that evilness you expect! It's a great way to spend your afternoon!

Loved this one!

I finished this audiobook and came away shoving my fist into the air and shouting, "Go, Girl!" Not that this story is a totally feminist one but it allows the heroine to search for what she thinks she would like out of life and for herself. Sure, along the way she makes mistakes, but she learns from them.
She is brought back to good health after a coach accident by a doctor who she befriends and soon both of them are more aware of each other presence than they should really be.
This story has so many little adventures in it and one can see her growing and learning with each one.
There is such a lovely ending - no, I won't spoil it for you, but for me, it was "the cherry on top!"
I truly enjoyed every moment of this cleverly written story and the narration by Kathy Li helped bring it to life.
I request and listened to the audiobook version and my unbiased review above is given voluntarily.

Women Power

This is a short story about a girl in the 1800s taking her future into her own hands. She goes after what she wants and doesn't let the stereotype determine her future.

Kathleen Li did a great job narrating this novella. I enjoyed her voice.

I received a code to listen and review. I enjoyed Kathleen Li's voice and would love to listen to more books she narrates but the story was just ok for me.
