Acerca de esta escucha

Amanda Knox spent four years in a foreign prison for a crime she did not commit. In the fall of 2007, the 20-year-old college coed left Seattle to study abroad in Italy, but her life was shattered when her roommate was murdered in their apartment. After a controversial trial, Amanda was convicted and imprisoned. But in 2011, an appeals court overturned the decision and vacated the murder charge. Free at last, she returned home to the U.S., where she has remained silent, until now.

Filled with details first recorded in the journals Knox kept while in Italy, Waiting to Be Heard is a remarkable story of innocence, resilience, and courage, and of one young woman’s hard-fought battle to overcome injustice and win the freedom she deserved. With intelligence, grace, and candor, Amanda Knox tells the full story of her harrowing ordeal in Italy - a labyrinthine nightmare of crime and punishment, innocence and vindication - and of the unwavering support of family and friends who tirelessly worked to help her win her freedom.

I never followed the Amanda Knox story on the news as I don’t follow the news much at all. I saw this on sale on audible and read reviews. It sounded interesting so I gave it a listen.
INCREDIBLE story. Don’t hesitate to buy it. It’s nice that Amanda narrated it herself. Her journey in Perugia was so interesting to follow. It’s maddening to see how the Italian police and judicial system overlooked obvious lack of evidence before imprisoning a person. It’s upsetting that she was left there for so long while the prosecution and police looked for reasons to peg her and even lied about her mistreatment.
The end of the book gave me such a light feeling. It’s as if I was experiencing such tribulations right alongside her. I am happy things worked out for her.

Well worth the listen!

I have been waiting to hear this story from Amanda ' s side since that fateful day. I was a study abroad student living on Via Appia in Perugia, near the house she lived in. I vividly remeber what is was like after the murder and now I finally got to hear the whole truth from start to finish. Glad you are finally free of it all Amanda. Congratulations!

I lived in Perugia when this happened!

As a trial lawyer in Florida I can see how this "perfect storm" resulted in such such an injustice. I'm so proud of Amanda in fighting for the truth and I'm so glad that she is pursuing this as a cause and I hope that never happens to anyone ever again. Shame on the police and an unjust prosecuter!

Outstanding

I binge listened to this book all weekend and just finished it. It was captivating, and hearing it in the author's own voice made it only that much better. I sought out her book after watching a documentary on Netflix and am so very glad that I did. Her story is powerful and absolutely worth exploring.

An incredible, inspiring journey

Very good book, was a little slow in the beginning but otherwise excellent. Listening to the Italian in the book got to be a bit much but Amanda did a good job translating. I would be interested in a second book detailing life after she returned to Seattle and how she's moved on with her life. Plan on reading the book by Raphael next. Recommend to anyone (and even those that did not) follow the case!

Very good book!!

Would you listen to Waiting to Be Heard again? Why?

Yes, well written, very well narrated and a good story. I have to say, it makes me very nervous to visit a place like Italy where you are assumed guilty till proven innocent. The book was written so well that you feel every emotion that Amanda goes through.

A must listen. Especially due to the fact that its Amanda her self that narrates it.

What other book might you compare Waiting to Be Heard to and why?

none

Have you listened to any of Amanda Knox’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It infuriated me how blatantly the corrupt or upside down the Italian Judicial system is.

This was a great great book

I am so glad to have spent these hours listening to Amanda Knox’s story in her voice and from her perspective after so many years ago only hearing the salacious media portrayal. I’m floored by her resilience and hope and that of her family and friends. I realize there are three sides to every story but I do feel like hers was the right side. What an incredible four years she endured.

The most incredible book I’ve ever read

I decided to listen to Amanda in her own words in her own voice. (Full disclosure: I barely knew her plight & didn’t follow the media circus. And somehow, I still judged her.)
This is a brave & frank account of her nightmare. In retelling it there are moments when, despite her even tone, her frustration & anguish come through. This miscarriage of justice that befell her could’ve, & indeed does, happen all around the world: we see what we want to see & our prejudices often obscure what’s at risk. Amanda is very lucky. How many are rotting in jail because our policing & our courts have not caught up with the research, the science or the learning ... it’s NOT the Italian justice system only. The antiquated adversarial mode in which truth is a contest for the court’s favour and this often gets things dangerously wrong.
Listen to this if you want an impactful account of what it means to be misunderstood, especially without safeguards.

Loved hearing Amanda tell her own story. The emotion was there throughout the book. Fantastic and compelling! I wanted to give Amanda a big hug at the end.

Great!!
