some good ideas and some neat story telling

I liked a lot of things about this book, but I didn't like how it seemed to be a longer book that was cut at a particular page count. There are some neat story telling devices that work well, but probably cannot be used again. Will read the next volume.

Jon Snow in space!

A good book with an interesting and active storyline. The narrator did a good job with voice characters, however as a game of thrones watcher, I found one main character’s voice to sound just like kit harrington’s Jon Snow. It actually lent earnestness to his character, so it actually appealed to me.

Good twisty SO.

Starts a little slow, then a third of the way in Bam. the pieces start to fit. A cross between The Expanse and Peter F Hamilton's Blood in the stars. well done.

An Interesting World

Velocity Weapon was entertaining. It has the feel of a prequel. I was a bit disappointed because I was expecting more of a full story. I don't know if I will buy the next book or not. The language is close to natural but the new words added for the story are not numerous. There must be some kind of quota for using clever original words so the ones Ms O'Keefe came up with are used often. I found the premise of the story compelling to a point and then things felt repetitive after that. I powered through a third of the book and by the half way point I was much less enthused.

for those looking for a new series with that new space opera vibe a la Hamilton, Banks, .. you've found it.

Pretty good story, great performance

Overall, this was a good first book in the series. It would have benefited from a little more world background, as it seemed to start in the middle and the reader had to catch up. It does bounce back and forth in time, but the chapters start with the year, so it’s easy to follow. The narration is wonderful - he pulls off a wide variety of accents and different voices for the characters, and his inflection and emotion was convincing. The characters were fairly well fleshed out, though I didn’t feel that any of them particularly grew or changed over the course of the book.

Some of the internal monologues did drag on too long, and there were some portions that seemed to be more filler than plot progression.

The book does end on a total cliffhanger though - so reader beware.

An enthralling sci-fi adventure

Wonderful narrator, immersive story. This is the 3rd book of O’keefe’s that I’ve had the pleasure of listening to and hands down O’Keefe is my new favorite fiction writer

Simply Spectacular

Best damned sci-fi I've read since The Expanse. Can't wait for more from Megan O'Keefe!

Fantastic beginning of series!!!

I listened to the whole book in one day and was hooked from the start. The settings are amazing, and the author does an excellent job fleshing out her characters and weaving their stories together.

Story is fine, narrator is annoying

Can't stand the way the narrator uses a thick cockney accent for the protagonist and seems to try way too hard at doing so. It's like a cartoonish caricature of a British accent, and ruins the enjoyment of the story.
