About this listen

This anthology includes ten stories from four universes. They all deal with selling stuff or the value of stuff, if you stretch a point. And they are all fun reads and you don’t have to stretch a point to see that.
“Signs” from the 1632 universe deals with what money is and what it will and won’t buy. It’s one of my favorites in Eric’s 1632 world. A short fun story to get us started.
The second story comes first. “The Sewing Circle” is my first professional sale. It’s what got me into writing and what got me interested in economics. It’s a full-fledged novella at over thirty thousand words.
“All Steamed Up” discusses the introduction of steam into the 1632 universe and lets you see how the kids from “The Sewing Circle are growing up. It’s a fun story of how a young man comes into his own.
“The Problem with Demons” is also about the introduction of steam, or at least the use of steam. It takes us to another universe, the Demon Rift Universe, which Paula, Eric, and I built. Which includes so far, the novels The Demons of Paris, The Demons of Constantinople, and Demon Lord of Elysium.
“Wish Book” takes us back to 1632 and discusses marketing in the 17th century.
“Mrs. Schumacher,” again in 1632. To go from a village shoemaker to a shoe factory is doable, but not easy.
“Bunny B. Goode” is placed in backwards Spain, where the new knowledge of Grantville and the Ring of Fire has its effect, but so do greed and repression. The combination can have tragic outcomes.
“The Founding of the Heestiff Hive” takes us off to the Star Wings universe, though this story takes place in a distant corner of that universe, on a world that humans won’t discover for thousands of years after the story happens. No humans in this story, but there is romance, honor, danger, courage, and hope.
“Murder at the Higgins” goes back to the 1632 universe. The Higgins Hotel is a going concern and money and murder both live there.
“Murder for Magic” is placed on the Merge world in the WarSpell Multiverse. Wealth, power, and really nifty magical items can be yours if you’re willing to murder for them.
