Acerca de esta escucha
And what's worse, the heirs of Alexander the Great aren't the sort of people who are going to stay within their borders and let the rest of Europe—or Asia, or North Africa—work out their own destinies.
It would be bad enough to be subjects of Rome. To be subjects of the Macedonians was something you wouldn't wish on a Gaul.
Something must be done. And with the help of the radio teams that give Rome and the other Italian states access to the knowledge from the twenty-first century, something will be.

Historia
Compiled by intrepid journalist Neve Pride, this archive of recordings spans the months after dragons emerged on earth, chronicling the communities that sprang up amid the destruction, the scientists, military leaders, and experts searching for a defense, and those steadfastly seeking the missing. Neve and her young daughter Bex travel among the wreckage speaking to those left behind and surviving, against all odds. Neve records everything for history, and in the hopes of locating a clue as to where the dragons came from and how one might stop them.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet.

Antigonus One-eye has murdered Susan Godlewski. He did it on camera as a political statement of dominance. The Ship People, the people from the twenty-first century who had arrived in this time on the Cruise ship Queen of the Sea, had to respond. Or they would be the meat for any bandit chief from the tag end of the fourth century BCE. Captain Lars Floden declared Antigonus One-eye dead, but despite the magical beliefs of this time, just saying it didn't make it so. Making it so would demand courage, and commitment, misdirection, and impossible technology from the twenty-first century. As ...

Not every hero stands at the forefront of battle, chopping up, or gunning down the foe. Johan Kipper, an old and worn mercenary who had done more than his share of chopping up and gunning down, finally found his hero, his liege lord, not in a great captain, but in David Bartley, a fourteen year old boy who was just trying to make sure his family could get by. A lad who was trying to protect his family by making rather than taking, by building rather than destroying. And, more, a lad who didn't need to knock Johan down to feel tall or make Johan afraid to feel brave. Never in his long life ...

Historia
When the Ring of Fire drags Grantville, West Virginia, back to seventeenth-century Germany, down-time veteran Edgar Neustatter finds himself among the survivors of a unit devastated by the up-time Americans and their Swedish allies. After wintering in Grantville, they return home to find that while they have changed, their village has not. Having glimpsed the promise of a republic ruled by its people rather than lords and tyrants, Neustatter leads his men and their families back to Grantville to establish a new agency: Neustatter's European Security Services.

A few years ago Eric and I talked about doing a 1632 WarSpell crossover. The idea was that a bunch of gamers playing WarSpell would set their game in a copy of the 1632 universe, but with a little bit of magic. Paula and I wrote the book and then Eric decided that he didn't want to do the crossover. The story was fine and Ring of Fire Press would have published it, but he wanted it changed so that it was no longer a 1632 crossover. That was because he didn't want people starting to think that this was part of the 1632 Canon, At the time I had been thinking that I would have to change ...

Excellent Writing
I enjoy the story. The AI was disappointing but probably a necessary evil to keep costs down for the authors do to Ring of Fire Publishing’s dissolution. They may not be able to afford paying a live narrator without the publishing company. I really do prefer an actual voice though. I was pleased to see the series continuation and want to see more of this series.

Mispronounced words disrupting the suspension of disbelief
Grossly mispronounced words as if no attention paid to conventions. Horrid amount of mental speed bumps.

AI Narrator Detracts from Overall Experience
I very much disliked the virtual narration produced by AI. Technically the voice was fine and indistinguishable from a real person. But the inflection was flat and off. it was painfully obvious that the story was being narrated by a machine with no understanding of what was being read. The delivery was awkward and detracted from the story, which could have been so much better. I love the premise of the story and very much enjoyed the previous installments. Maybe the AI narration was an experiment to see how well it would be received. What a disappointment, to say the least. I would urge the authors and publishing company to go back to a human narrator. i'm willing to pay for that.

great story, not a great narrator.
This is a great story. The narrator, not so much. She slaughters names and locations with impunity.
