Acerca de esta escucha

In Uneasy Lies the Crown, the thrilling new mystery in Tasha Alexander's best-selling series, Lady Emily and her husband Colin must stop a serial killer whose sights may be set on the new king, Edward VII.

On her deathbed, Queen Victoria asks to speak privately with trusted agent of the Crown, Colin Hargreaves, and slips him a letter with one last command: Une sanz pluis. Sapere aude. “One and no more. Dare to know.”

The year is 1901, and the death of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch has sent the entire British Empire into mourning. But for Lady Emily and her dashing husband, Colin, the grieving is cut short as another death takes center stage. A body has been found in the Tower of London, posed to look like the murdered medieval king Henry VI. When a second dead man turns up in London's exclusive Berkeley Square, his mutilated remains staged to evoke the violent demise of Edward II, it becomes evident that the mastermind behind the crimes plans to strike again.

The race to find the killer takes Emily deep into the capital’s underbelly, teeming with secret gangs, street children, and sleazy brothels - but the clues aren’t adding up. Even more puzzling are the anonymous letters Colin has been receiving since Victoria's death, seeming to threaten her successor, Edward VII. With the killer leaving a trail of dead kings in his wake, will Edward be the next victim?

Not my favorite of this author's installments - a bit slow throughout. Good narration, however, the audio editing is TERRIBLE! Narrator randomly got much louder and softer throughout the book (not according to scenes/appropriate narration). Also occasional other sounds (like someone in the background making strange noises). Unfortunate for both author and narrator.

A little slow - audio editing needs work!

You can't do much better listening to this very comprehensively researched mystery. Bravo to the wife of Andrew Grant, who is brother to Lee Child. Listen up.

Great historical mystery!

I won't giveaway spoilers but if you're a devotee of the Lady Emily series, you won't want to miss this book!

Another important chapter in this series

I read some reviews before starting this book. At lot of them complained about the other story mixed in. I loved it, and was thrilled to learn about Collins ancestors! I can only hope another book is not far behind!

Better than some said

I love Tasha Alexander's books and Bianca Amato is an exceptional talent. Too bad it's marred by poor editing, with extraneous sounds breaking through the audio and uneven volume.

Great story, fabulous narration, poor editing

Queen Victoria has died. Edward is King. A cryptic note that Victoria gives to Colin before she dies and a subsequent note found at a murder scene of a man dressed as one of the earlier King Edwards start Emily and Colin on an investigation. Is the new king threatened and by whom? Colin has his theory and Emily has hers. They investigate together and separately and there is much discussion . Throw in their friend Jeremy, the Duke of Bainbridge and their own children for comic relief and you get a delightful story. Even better there are two timelines throughout the book; their present time and that of Colin's ancestors William and Cecily. I loved the conclusions to both storylines and the mysteries. The slice of life from Colin's ancestors was a refreshing change . I look forward to Emily and Colin in the Edwardian period.

Fabulous

Miss Alexander does it again! Her writing her storytelling the way she twists and twines everything together is entertaining from beginning to end. Bianca Amato brings all of her people to life in a most charming way. I am beyond thrilled that there are two more books in the series that I have not listened to.

It saddens me that there are a couple of books earlier on I cannot listen to because of the narrator. This book made me very very happy. Thank you!

Worth the wait

I have enjoyed Tasha Alexander's series since the beginning, but the sound quality in the narration seems to be getting worse with each book. The volume gets louder, then softer, then louder again, and when I'm listening in my car, it will suddenly blare out of only one speaker. I'm constantly turning the volume up and down. Really distracting in an otherwise excellent series!

Please fix the sound quality!

I'd gotten a bit weary of some of the latest stories but I must admit to enjoying this one very much. The move from the Victorian Age to the Edwardian Age will hopefully extend the same experience.

Much better
