About this listen

For both Zane and Darby, their small-town roots hold a terrible secret. Now, decades later, they've come together to build a new life. But will the past set them free or pull them under? Find out in Under Currents from number-one New York Times best-selling author Nora Roberts.

Zane Bigelow grew up in a beautiful, perfectly kept house in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Strangers and even Zane’s own aunt across the lake see his parents as a successful surgeon and his stylish wife, making appearances at their children’s ballet recitals and baseball games. Only Zane and his sister know the truth, until one brutal night finally reveals cracks in the facade, and Zane escapes for college without a thought of looking back....

Years later, Zane returns to his hometown determined to reconnect with the place and people that mean so much to him, despite the painful memories. As he resumes life in the colorful town, he meets a gifted landscape artist named Darby, who is on the run from ghosts of her own.

Together, they will have to teach each other what it means to face the past, and stand up for the ones they love.

My New Favorite Nora Roberts Book!!!

Under Currents is sooooooooo good! It sucks you in from chapter one. You become invested in the Bigelow family drama. You will definitely hate Graham and Eliza. The subject matter is intense but, enjoyable. It gives you a glimpse into domestic violence and how it affects the entire family; not just the victims. She also adds a little twist with the abuser but, I won’t tell you what that is. There are multiple characters in the book. Some you will love and some you will be giving the side eye. Just when you think the bad guys are gone, surprise surprise, she introduces a secondary villain. My only complaint is, once she introduced the secondary villain into the storyline, I was able to figure out who it was fairly quickly. So, there was no element of surprise once that person was revealed. Other than that, this book was awesome. It checked all of my boxes. I would definitely recommend it. Oh, and January LaVoy did an awesome job narrating! She does not disappoint.

classic Roberts

Under Currents is a classic Nora Roberts story, so if you like this author, you’ll like this story.
As I’ve followed her since her start in Harlequin, I’m a little jaded. This is solid, but not one of her top tier books. It didn’t grab me and yank me into the story. But yes, these characters are people you wish were your friends and family. Roberts writes them with a warmth that so many authors just can’t match.
LaVoy does a good job of narration; especially with character differentiation and emotion.

Worth the Wait!

I have been so upset that Audible advertised this book for months! It was very hard knowing it was coming and having to wait on it. But as always, Nora wrote a great book that was well worth waiting for. I cried the whole first part of the book because of what those children had to go through. There was also laughter, love, caring, mystery, anticipation of what was to come. Wonderful book as usual Nora. Thanks. Can't wait for the next one.

Not the best by this author

Found myself wanting this to be over a couple of times. It felt like too much time, too many crises, took away the believability that I love from Nora's novels.

Fun! Fun! Fun!

I loved ♥ this book! The characters are rich in description, color character and disposition...love the loveable , fear the creepy and mean ones and weep with the vulnerable ones. It's been a long time since I have laughed 😆 outloud at a book. Thank you Ms Roberts for returning me to the pleasure of reading 📚 an entertaining story. Further the narrator is absolutely fantastic and as we all know, a rich narration enhances the joy of "reading" an audible book .

Wow!

This book was great! I’ll admit the first part was tough to read, so I was glad when it jumped ahead a few years. Not sure why some people said it went flat after that. I don’t think I’ve ever been totally unable to quit listening to a book!
