A must listen, but...

If you are a follower, this one is a must. However, so much of this book is wasted on Betsy's constant "thinking" that I almost stopped listening. My mind wandered so much I had to rewind constantly. Nancy Wu's narration as Betsy is great, as usual, however I find the narration as Laura to be like nails on a chalkboard. Perhaps it has a lot to do with my dislike for that character in general, but it just becomes hard to listen to after awhile.

Back on track!

Great addition to the series. Betsy’s still funny but smartening up too. Looking forward to the next book

Respect...

I have a new respect for MJ Davidson. I love the Queen Betsy series, but while listening I occasionally hear some really wonderful things. One of the things many authors struggle with is getting a genuine emotion/feeling across. At one point Davidson gets the point of discomfort across with such skill that I felt like I was experiencing Betsy’s level of discomfort. I also absolutely adore the characters, but while I liked Laura, initially I don’t like her in the least now. She is the worst kind of person. A do gooder that does so not because she’s genuinely good, but because it looks good, very very common for liberals. Many comments are made about Betsy being a republican and not in a good way, but despite Betsy’s outworks appearance of being self centered she’s actually far more altruistic than the liberal characters. As for the story, I’m never disappointed when I get to the end, well except for that one time, but I think everyone was.

Another delight from MJD and Queen Betsy

At this juncture in the series, I am hardy surprised by how much I enjoy the Undead series. I love how strange and referential and goofy this series is, and have mixed emotions as I approach the end of this series. If you have liked the latter books in this series, this one is a great next installment.

Parts of the story are good

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I understand that the Betsy needs some inner monolog, but does does it have to take up more than 3/4ths of the book? The "story" is wonderful, it's her constant talking to herself that can get tiresome.

Would you recommend Undead and Unwary to your friends? Why or why not?

I have listened to every one of these books, and my only complaint is always the same. I have already recommended the story to friends.

What does Nancy Wu bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I LOVE the reader. I wouldn't change a thing about her!

Do you think Undead and Unwary needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I know there is going to be two more books to finish the series. I will miss all the characters when the series ends.

Any additional comments?

Mrs. Davidson, I don't know if you read the comments, but please cut back just a little bit on her inner monolog. You are a wonderful writer with such an interesting story. I promise you do not need all the extra filler. With you till the end always,Tara

3.5 stars

I've loved these books from the start but it just seems as if Betsy is getting dumber as the story progresses. This book it's partly retailing previous books but it still had its own plot that was thrown into it. A lot could have been left out. After reading the previous book I took a year-and-a-half break before I read this book. The underlying plot was pretty strong here, if a lot of the other stuff that have been left out. I am immediately reading the next book to find out what's going to happen. I really hope that she grows up by the end of this series.

Davidson breathes new Life into Hell

For the last couple of novels, Davisdson has floundered. But in the last novel she set the stage for a confrontation between Betsy and her sister Laura. In Undead and Unwary, that confrontation plays out. I am please to report that this novel is excellent and a fabulous return to the fun spirited early books which made this series fun. We have a lot to chew on, Betsy matures, Laura doesn't disappoint, Jessica is hilarious, and the aunt and some new friends. Okay, you have to read it for yourself.

Wu does a fabulous job narrating as always. If you are a fan of the series, do not delay as I did. Another thing I liked in this novel was the way Davidson referred to her previous novels like footnotes instead of summarizing what we already knew -- a great device.
Go ahead a chomp it on down. You'll be glad you did.

If you've followed the series Betsy grows up

Where does Undead and Unwary rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've listened to this series since the start, and they are all laugh out loud funny. This one more than the others is one of the best since Betsy learns to take responsibility for her actions and really grows up. If you start with this book you loose a lot, you have to start with book 1 and go from there. I laughed out loud so many times with my headphones on my family was really starting to worry.....NOT.

What other book might you compare Undead and Unwary to and why?

I can only compare to Molly Harper Jane Jamison series......which was also laugh out loud funny, and about vampires.

Which scene was your favorite?

There are so many and most of them are spoilers to anyone who's into the series. I don't want to ruin it for anyone but mostly about the "TWINS" so many laugh out loud moments.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

SPOILER: When Betsy realizes her sister has lied to her for a long time, and really doesn't care about her.

Any additional comments?

I don't know what Ms. Davidson has in store for the next book, but I'm looking forward to it.
