About this listen

Ultra-OCR Man tells the story of an unlikely athlete, Evan Perperis, who grew up to serve in the United States Army’s Special Forces.

He uses his 44 cumulative months of combat experience, mostly Iraq, to excel in the extreme sport of Ultra-distance Obstacle Course Racing (OCR).

Through his journey he honors the memory of his fallen friends and soldiers as well as defying the limits of what some believe is possible in the sport.

Follow his journey as he continues to push his own personal limits by attempting events like seven days in a row of Ultra-OCR, attempting to finish in the top 10 of every 24 hour OCR in the world, running 24 hours on a treadmill while doing obstacles every mile and attempting to set the record for the longest continuous OCR ever.

Will he continue to break records and reach the top of the world’s biggest 24 hour Obstacle Course Races or find himself collapsed in defeat?

Ultra good book

This book takes you to extremes of endurance you didn’t know were possible. You’re right there in the trenches with Evan as he paces you through dozens of OCR and ultra OCR races. The mental toughness and grit required to get through the challenges and standards Evan sets for himself are as astounding as the approach, tips and lessons he imparts are down to earth. Through the highs, lows, mental and physical extremes, Evan takes you on the journey in such simple, clear language, you almost feel like it’s as easy as putting one foot in front of the other. And according to Evan, it is. Highly recommend to anyone interested in OCR, mental fortitude or just a good story. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

Inspiring Athletic Adventure

I’m not a OCR guy but I loved this book! If you have enjoyed 50/50, the comfort crisis or Outliers this book is in the same league. Evan takes you along on his ridiculous adventure that usually involves tons of miles run, obstacles completed and living in a place beyond physical pain. I also appreciated the humor he seems to find in these extreme situations. A really fun read, may have to listen to it again next time I need some motivation to get through a tough challenge.
