Stumbled upon this book while training for my marathon after just finishing “born to run” I’m the type of runner who likes to listen to inspiring and informative information while running, and boy is this packed full of helpful tips for a first timer! Denise is an energetic and passionate marathoner who’s love for running leaks and transforms training into enjoyment! I had to contact Denise after her book, & she does zoom appointments to give you any further tips & honestly just some genuine motivation if you’re feeling stuck in your training. Informative and enjoyable
I think this is a great resource for first timers like me and told in a very relatable way. Last year I ran a half marathon and thought “let’s do this again, but harder!” So here I am a few weeks into marathon training and listening to running-related audio books. This particular book is more relatable than most since it includes perspectives by first time marathon finishers. The author also provides just enough background on herself that you know to take her advice very seriously but not so much that the book turns into an ego trip, like some other books.
Highly recommend!

Real People Examples
This book is both inspiring and informative. The variety of real life stories of not just “runners” who completed the marathon and the areas covered for practical application in preparing for the marathon kept me engaged even while listening during walks. On top of that the balanced perspective of running in the big picture of life is unique to any other running book I have read. The author’s own testimony sparked more than just how to run a marathon, but also how the experience relates to many other things we can accomplish with the right outlook and discipline. Easy read and great listen!

First time marathoner
I am signed up to run my first marathon in one week. I have trained for it with a running group and coach for 16 weeks and this book reinforced everything I have done and been taught to be ready for marathon morning. I loved the first time stories at the beginning of each chapter. This book was exactly what I needed to get me through the taper blues and get me mentally ready for race day!

Excellent resource + so much positivity!!!
This book is chock full of expert, detailed advice on running your first marathon.
But as important as those facts are, it is the emotional encouragement that Coach Denis provides - which sets this book apart.
A must read for anyone preparing for their first 26.2 race!
