About this listen

She thought they'd never find her.

Marisa Vega's life as an adoptive mom in a tiny Mexican village isn't what she'd dreamed of while growing up in New York, but, as the target of a man who's convinced she stole millions of dollars from his financial firm, Marisa believes hiding is her only way to stay alive. When her daughter is snatched and held for ransom, Marisa must discover who really stole the money in order to rescue her.

He swore he'd never play the hero again.

Months after being kidnapped, tortured, and left with PTSD, Nate Boyle is ready to live a quiet life in rural New Hampshire. When the source of his breakout newspaper article - and the woman who haunts his dreams - begs for help, he gets pulled into a riddle that's proved unsolvable for nearly a decade.

Can Nate and Marisa unravel the years-old mystery and bring her daughter home?

Did not dissapoint!!

I loved this book! grabbed my attention and held it all 40 chapters! we caught just a glimpse of Nate and the loyalty to his friend in Convenient Lies. I love how this story challenges him to make hard choices, should he get involved or just stay out of it, I mean no one would blame him! he just went through a life changing experience, he deserved an out, but nope, he (reluctantly) jumped right in. this story twists and turns and leaves you saying "NO WAY!"

👍You'll enjoy this one!

I really enjoyed this second book about this group of friends. I was disappointed with a few unnecessary curse words and the use of the Lord's name in vain.

Robin Patchen is a very talented writer!

This was a good extension of the first book. The characters believable and the story exciting.

Great suspense and romance

Almost all the characters drew you into their lives and issues.
Marrisa was too whiny and emotional. She did not demonstrate under pressure for the most part.
Still a.really good read.

Not worth the time

The storyline was good. It could’ve been an exciting book if it was cut down by about two hours of repeating things over and over and over. As far as the narrator, I’m not even sure where to start. Every single line is dramatic so when there is a dramatic line you don’t get the effect because her tone of voice doesn’t change. I just wouldn’t take the time to read it again or listen to it.

Better story read than listened to

This is the second book I’ve read in this series and the story itself was just as good as the first. Except for the incessant whining portray of the mother. Understandably, in her situation tears would be expected. Unfortunately, the narrator went into whining mode during almost EVERY time the mother spoke. It made Marissa sound weak and boneless, which did not match up with how heroic she managed life on the run, living in poverty in a small town in Mexico as a fugitive, to adopting a baby and then searching for her kidnapped daughter. I almost quit listening several times because the whining was so annoying. But~ the characters are interesting and the story, even though I guessed the main culprit early on, was well thought out and carried my attention. So, overall a good book, but I believe the narrator could covey Marissa’s anguish, fear & apprehension without using one continuous whine.
