Acerca de esta escucha

Truth Has a Power of Its Own is an engrossing collection of never-before-published conversations with Howard Zinn, conducted by the distinguished broadcast journalist Ray Suarez in 2007, that covers the course of American history from Columbus to the War on Terror from the perspective of ordinary people - including slaves, workers, immigrants, women, and Native Americans.

Viewed through the lens of Zinn's own life as a soldier, historian, and activist and using his paradigm-shifting People's History of the United States as a point of departure, these conversations explore the American Revolution, the Civil War, the labor battles of the 19th and 20th centuries, US imperialism from the Indian Wars to the War on Terrorism, World Wars I and II, the Cold War, and the fight for equality and immigrant rights, all from an unapologetically radical standpoint. Longtime admirers and a new generation of listeners alike will be fascinated to learn about Zinn's thought processes, rationale, motivations, and approach to his now-iconic historical work.

Suarez's probing questions and Zinn's humane (and often humorous) voice - along with his keen moral vision - shine through every one of these lively and thought-provoking conversations, showing that Zinn's work is as relevant as ever.

In general, I really like the content of this audiobook. If you have read Howard‘s previous work, this would feel like a summary in interview form.
In my opinion, if there was one area to improve, it would be to create a better separation between the questions and the answers. Since both of these come from the same narrator, in the same tone, the questions at times felt like comments making it challenging to follow who was saying what.
Overall, I still enjoyed the book.

Great conversation

Great book by a great man that doesn’t give the recommendations he deserves. Love learning about his life and how he saw the world we all share.

R.I.P Zinn

I was hoping to hear Howard Zinnia speak personally and was a little disappointed that it's a reading of an in depth interview. A transcript. That being said it was illuminating as always to hear his personal perspective on history and how we shape the narrative to suit the needs of the time.

I have long admired his devotion to the hinest telling of history. Our forefathers were not perfect. We should share their legacy in a more human way. Highly recommended for the history lover in you.
