Acerca de esta escucha

When a billionaire dies, an innocent woman is blamed. One lawyer must fight a wealthy family for justice.

It seems straightforward to Attorney Nate Shepherd: a middle-aged billionaire dies while celebrating at a wedding reception. The grief-stricken family lashes out, though, blaming the billionaire’s date for his death. When the family brings all of its power to bear, the wheels of local justice threaten to overwhelm the woman.

As Nate Shepherd steps in to defend her, he tries to deflect the misplaced anger that’s directed at the woman for the tragedy. But as the investigation progresses, a tangled history unravels, including unexpected ties to Nate’s own life. And with each secret that is uncovered, the stakes rise until Nate finds himself fighting for the woman’s freedom in a trial for her life.

Can Nate Shepherd protect an innocent client from a family trying to buy its own brand of justice?

This is the second book in the gripping Nate Shepherd Legal Thriller series. If you like razor-sharp dialogue, iron-willed characters, and slippery moral quandaries, then you’ll love this fierce courtroom drama.

Same complaint as the last book. The author has made a stylistic choice which if used more moderately would add interest to the dialog.
But using as a response "I did, she was, they wouldn't, it is", and so on instead of a simple "yes" or "no" was just too much.
Ease up Stagg.
As for narrator, great voice but still not making enough difference between characters.

Interesting plot

I enjoyed reading this book. it wasn't the very best book but it was worth a credit.

Kept me listening until the end. Lots of surprises. Again, George Newbern is an excellent narrator and has ‘become’ Nate in the readings! Love this Nate series!

Twists and turns

Really enjoying these books. The narration is on point. Love this actor. Nate’s character is the embodiment of all good trial lawyers I’ve ever known. An easy guy to like and to sympathize with. The descriptions are great, the dialogue is believable. I saw a review regarding someone taking issue with the way the witnesses respond to questions. I’d point out that most witnesses who testify in their official capacity, such as medical, forensic, law enforcement, code enforcement, regulatory, etc. are going to respond with “I did,” or “I did not,” when asked questions related to their actions. Especially if those actions are about abiding by protocols, standard or best practices, or standards of review, etc. Once a witness falls into a pattern of response, it’s difficult to break out of that pattern while under the same questioning. Lawyers also ask questions in a way that guides a witness like ending a question with the word “correct,” so that if a witness mostly agrees they will respond “correct.” Usually, only when the witness strongly disagrees with the question, will they expound on the response. It’s all strategy, and these books really bring legal positioning to light.

So good!

This is my second Michael Stagg book, and it was enjoyable. The reason I gave it 4 stars was the conversational language that continues in his second book. It’s not natural IMO. The story line was thinner, but I enjoyed the forest education!

Good Not Great

I loved the first book and this one was equally as fantastic. I like that the story builds and you learn with the characters. It's also great that it isn't graphic. it proves you can tell a good story without gore.

another great story

I liked the first book better but this one was really good too. A bit of a surprise at the end which was clever.

Great listen

Michical Stagg is a new author to me. Audible gave me the first Lethal Defense. I liked it enough to spend my next credit on True Intent.
I throughly enjoy the lead characters, the banter and story line. Through the listening, you know the ending, it’s how that is good.
I also think the narrator does a very good job.
More Michael Stagg in my future.

New author to me

Lawyer keeps his integrity, but he had to know, like the rest of us.

Not as good as first one.

Not a surprise
