About this listen

A missing man leads Jack Haldean straight into danger...

Mark Helston, the rising star of Hunt Coffee Limited, was successful and popular, with plenty of money and everything to live for. Yet at half past seven on the evening of the ninth of January, 1925, he walked out of his Albemarle Street flat and disappeared.

Desperate to know what happened to Mark, his uncle, old Mr Hunt, appeals to Jack Haldean. Inspector Bill Rackham of Scotland Yard thinks it’s a thankless task. Perhaps, says Jack, but why should Mark Helston vanish? And then Jack finds a body...

Critic reviews

"A classic mystery in the style of Philip Macdonald’s Anthony Gethryn stories; complex, insouciant and very British" (Kirkus Reviews)

Funny thing is

I found this hard to follow. The story is not too bad really but does stretch the willing suspension of disbelief a bit in places, and I had to go back a few times to find what I may have missed. I kept dozing off in some places..so the plot is OK but the writing is maybe not so good. Maybe if on Sale for a 'cozy mystery'. I would not say worth a credit.

Delightful mystery!

This was my introduction to the Jack Haldean mystery series. A very engaging story with twists and turns, keeping the listener guessing who the perpetrator was. I recommend it for those, like me, who enjoy a good mystery with no vulgar language or sexual situations. I would rate it PG-13, simply because of the genre (wouldn't want a small child to be listening to a story about murder). I plan to purchase the other books in the series that Audible has available. I'm hoping other books in the series will become available in the future.
