About this listen

How well do you know your child? More importantly, how could you help them navigate through a traumatic series of events? Adults often don't know where to begin when soothing a child's fears after troublesome world events or from a crisis within the home.

If you're a parent, guardian, educator, coach, or advocate for a child, you have numerous opportunities to guide them in their development.

Your role plays a crucial part in a child's development, even if your advocacy and presence in a child's life feel small to you.

When a caregiver gains more insight into the importance of trauma sensitivity, they provide a child with the opportunity for resilience and success.

With approximately 70% of people experiencing traumatic events by adulthood, we need to become champions for children so they can find a healing route toward an improved future.

a great book that brings you courage

I'm so overwhelmed and, at the same time, empowered. She has a tremendous amount of experience, and her research-based approach does shine through, even in such a complex idea being simplified. I enjoyed the practical techniques and tools presented in this book, especially some of the ideas on the enhancement of a child's self-expression. The most eye-opening was the type of trauma to look out for; I know more signs now to possibly look for in children. Although at times some of the content was heavy and not as easy to read, I felt the author did a great job emphasizing self-care for caregivers. I appreciated the 'check-in' sections at the end of each chapter that helped in reflecting and applying the knowledge. I most valued the insights on reframing challenging behaviors, which has already changed how I view certain situations. All in all, I would say this is a book worth having on the shelf of any person in whose care children may come into. I am better equipped to help children when they are distressed and am aware of how this trauma-sensitive care could influence their later life.

A very insightful book

As a parent myself, I found this book incredibly insightful and practical. Jennifer's extensive experience shines through as she guides us through understanding trauma and its effects on children.

What I appreciated most was her emphasis on the importance of being a trauma-sensitive caregiver. The techniques she outlines are not only easy to implement but also make a significant difference in how we can support our children during tough times. The book covers everything from recognizing various types of trauma to enhancing a child's self-expression and emotional bonding.

My favorite part was the research on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and how it relates to parenting.

Overall, "Trauma-Sensitive Parenting" is a valuable resource. It's a must-read for any parent, guardian, or educator looking to make a positive impact on a child's life!
