His father killed by the British and his home burned, young Tatton Chantry left Ireland to make his fortune and regain the land that was rightfully his. Schooled along the way in the use of arms, Chantry arrives in London a wiser and far more dangerous man. He invests in trading ventures, but on a voyage to the New World his party is attacked by Indians and he is marooned in the untamed wilderness of the Carolina coast. It is in this darkest time, when everything seems lost, that Chantry encounters a remarkable opportunity....
Suddenly all his dreams are within reach: extraordinary wealth, his family land, and the heart of a Peruvian beauty. But first he must survive Indians, pirates, and a rogue swordsman who has vowed to see him dead.

and similar to him I have been with rogues. the very wealthy and just very poor people... such as John f Kennedy was at my birth I've known him all my life he built me a career in the military when it became president.
for that military career I became a mercenary soldier. and I did many things.
the man in this story was much like me. it's an excellent book and you should read it or listen to it... cuz my life was very similar to this man's life. and the people that I know this time right now. their life is much like that I'm a sailor I live on the sea but I get into land adventures. this is by far one of the better books in my life I will remember it forever and I just turned 80 years old.
the one thing to note in Ojai California which I lived for quite a while a wonderful small town of artists and very well educated people.. THE LIBRARY HAS A ROOM THAT'S ABOUT 10 FT CALLED THE LOUIE L'AMOUR ROOM AND FROM 4:00 TO CEILING ON ALL FOUR WALLS ARE BOOKS WRITTEN BY HIM AND THERE ARE COMFORTABLE THERE'S TWO COMFORTABLE CHAIRS IN THERE THAT WOULD BE IN THE FRONT ROOM OF YOUR HOUSE.. AND THERE ARE PANELS BETWEEN THE ROWS OF BOOKS WITH PICTURES AND INFORMATION ABOUT THE MAN. LOUIS L'AMOUR LIVED IN THE TIME OF THE BOOKS HE WROTE ABOUT SO THEY'RE NOT JUST FICTION. HE ACTUALLY LIVED IN THE TIME OF THE BOOK SAID HE WROTE AND HE EXPERIENCED WHAT HE WROTE ABOUT HE JUST DID NOT MAKE IT UP ON HIS OWN HE WROTE HIS BOOKS FROM HIS OWN EXPERIENCES.. IT'S A VERY GREAT MAN AN EXCELLENT WRITER AND EVERYTHING HE WROTE IS REALLY GREAT AND YOU CAN SPEND YOUR LIFE READING HIS BOOKS JUST LIKE HE SPENT HIS LIFE WRITING THEM

The narration was so very impressive, and kept a jaunty and energetic pace.
A terribly entertaining read.
