About this listen

Some souls go to heaven, some go to hell. I never thought I would be the one to take them.

When 17-year-old Laney Dawson’s grandmother dies, the supernatural world she spent her life refusing turns out to be terrifyingly real. And now it's after her. Once she's manifested as a Lightbringer, she's commanded to serve her true purpose: taking souls to heaven and making sure they get there safely.

But that makes the inexperienced high school senior a target for an ambitious Shadowbringer who wants her soul as a trophy. Seems the afterlife is anything but simple, and there are some creatures out there willing to bargain for souls, even after we die. Good that Laney has a loyal friend at her side to protect her, but how much is she willing to risk to secure her new role? If her soul is taken, she'd become an empty human shell pained by a void that could never be filled. And it's a fate she may have to accept to protect those she loves.

Love and death collide in this thrilling new supernatural YA fantasy where death is only the beginning and a hidden world decides our eternal fate.

Torn is the first book in best-selling author Angelina J. Steffort’s Breath of Fate series, a young adult paranormal romance about a girl caught between the allure of darkness and light. This one was rough

Both narrators for this one are hard to listen to and grating on the ears which wasn’t a good start. Idk if it was just poor sound equipment or what but ever “s” sound was like a knife to the eardrum. Story wise it was okay, but the main character is whiny and dependent on the ‘strong male character’ and is made out to be this shaking scared and clueless dependent juvenile girl. Hard to root for someone like that when you don’t see much change or character growth from that across the board. I also felt like there were a fair amount holes and weird ‘man splaining’ moments that straight up just took me out of and that I frequently lost interest. But if a bummer as I was hoping it was going to be a good series but this is a no for me.

Over explanation & Description of Girl Fantasy Looks of people.

If you say it once then say it six more times in a different way and then your able to pad the book out that much more without telling a story. For me it was so boring with nothing to do with anything just repeatedly over describing character's looks and saying the same story facts over and over in different ways. I couldn't use the skip button enough.
