What do you do when your dream job turns into a nightmare?

Warren loves his job. As a game master for Fate and Freedom Online, he gets to do everything from piloting world bosses to helping players stuck in geometry.

When he overhears two coworkers plotting to hack the game and endanger players, things go downhill fast. Not wanting to leave a witness, Warren finds himself stuck in the game as a gnoll!

He’s level one, aggroing to every player, and unable to call for help or even log out of the game. How could things possibly get any worse?

Warren’s only hope is to become a world boss and get back some semblance of regular game UI. Unfortunately, standing between him and escape is a boss monster that isn’t too keen on letting him level up.

With some new friends and a little luck, will Warren escape his digital prison, or will he be stuck as a gnoll forever?

Not a typical LitRPG

I just finished listening to this today and I have to say I really enjoyed it. it was refreshing to not have a MC be crazy over powered with a generic ability. there is something (I won't spoil it) that the MC can do that isn't typical that is OP yes, but severe consequences come from it.

As a forever DM for DnD, it's nice to see a story from a monsters perspective in a sense. While in one other series I've listened to (Dungeon Lord by Huesca) has the story from the 'bad guy' perspective this is completely different and I love how the story was and progressed.

I admit that I listen to audio books on 1.5x speed, so to me the performance let something to be desired, but when I have a chance I will go back and listen to it at normal speed when i have some free time and see if that opinion changes.

This is a family friendly book which I don't recall much swearing if any at all. usually ever other sentence has a curse in it. Not here. There are also no adult only scenarios which is refreshing as well. This is a book I wouldn't mind my kids listening to.

Overall, this book was well worth my credit and I can't wait for the next installment.

good story but long-winded author

it's an enjoyable story and it kept me sort of listening. but the author is quite long-winded, he repeats concepts constantly and the character is always whining about the same things. this isn't bad because the story is pretty good and the main character is decently likable. just a little annoying.

Before you waste a credit, grab the ebook instead.

I enjoyed the story but the audio version was not so hot... I haven't been able to determine whether it's the narrator or the author for all the awkward sounding sentences... but since I've seemingly noticed this in every one of audiobooks I've listened to, that Jack Meloche has narrated, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it's the narrator fault. Because really every author cannot make the same mistakes with their writing and dialog... The only common denominator has been the narrator and Jack's somewhat stiff delivery! You really wouldn't notice this in the quick snippet Audible provides, as Jack's voice is pleasant. But believe me I've had to listen to 5 books before I could pin the problem down...
So go ahead and grab the ebook if you want to appreciate this gamelit book...

“Interesting Enough” - an OK Story *for LitRPG*

If you’re a stats person, this isn’t a very “crunchy” story.

For LitRPG, the story is all right: the plot is fairly unique; the end goal is iffy - but the MC’s just gotta try!; the adventuring that is done is actually pretty darn good - comparatively, to others in LitRPG; they get some new loot drops/abilities which are kind of exciting; the solutions to problems that the MC comes up with are decent; finally, the MC has godlike abilities which he uses from nearly the beginning of the story, but we find that these abilities come with equally destructive consequences, so these abilities are used sparingly, and what happens afterwards makes those *extremely* OP abilities interesting enough.

The problem with the story is the characters. I don’t know if it’s just a new author, or if this author doesn’t interact with other people much, but some of the interactions feel out of place and cumbersome. The personal perceptions and motivations for the characters’ actions are completely unbelievable in certain parts. I found myself shaking my head and thinking, “what? You gotta be kidding me. No one would have responded that way.” In more than one part.

That said, the story is interesting enough; it isn’t horrible, by any means. I may even see if the second books get better if I ever finish every other book in my library.

The narrator was pretty good, as well. I have no complaints at all about the reading, or the voices he used; however, there were quite a few editing issues. There was more than one spot where the narrator disliked a reading, I guess, and said the same line again. And it was left in. Had this been a great story, the siting absolutely would’ve killed immersion.

I wouldn’t tell anyone not to read/listen to this book - if they are a LitRPG fan. If the reader/listener isn’t already a fan of LitRPG/Progression/GameLit, however, you’ll wanna skip this one.

Contrived Idiot Plot

Using gnolls would have been a potentially interesting twist, but it's subverted by lackluster execution. The people in this story do not behave like real people, the actions of the antagonists don't make much sense, the protagonist has large but nonsensical gaps in his knowledge...

I ended up sadly frustrated, and stopped at chapter five; perhaps I haven't given the book a fair shake. :(

some good gnoll bois

this book was overall very enjoyable! about time we got something from the point of view of some gnolls(at least what I've seen). granted, it's a litrpg with a human player in a gnoll body, but still. the characters are generally great and the story is compelling.

if I had to fault it for something (which I feel makes reviews more believable) it would be that some characters had a couple of flip flops moments, and that the rest of the gnoll npcs act surprisingly human sometimes

as for the narration, it was pretty great, I loved some of the voices, but the editing needed another pass. many times I noticed a line being repeated.

A refreshing litrpg story

I love the books where someone gets turned into another creature in a fantasy world. the mc has problems in both the real world while imprisoned in his favorite vr game by a nefarious group. he has lost his real body and his normal character being turned into. agenric mob. the whole omg I have a tail thing made me laugh. the story is not to generic nor predictable. the mc has access to a command console for the game as he had borderline admin powers in his old body as a reasonably high up in the chain staff member of the game company. but his op powers also come with great risk. uses his powers to kill a player who is passing him off...triggers an event that puts everyone in danger. I love this book and look forward to more.

Great Story

Great story with just enough stats to be a litrpg without being slowed down by it. Fun story that focuses on the in game action, and only hints to the real world here and there.
