Two boys fall in love in a deadly world, but it's the secrets they keep that might kill them.

Seventeen-year-old Zach was visiting his uncle in a small Montana town when a mysterious illness ripped through the world. Most died, but those who survived the Infection became mindless killers, spreading the disease with a single scratch. Now, a year later, civilization lies in ruins, and Zach is the town's sole survivor. Desperately lonely, he longs to return to his family in Seattle, but his fears hold him captive.

Eighteen-year-old Aiden is on a critical mission for the covert Scientific Collective, delivering vials whose contents could cure the Infection. Tortured by his boyfriend's death, he welcomes the risks of the perilous journey. When a militia attacks Aiden, he flees to Zach's town.

The boys escape together and soon form a bond as they comfort each other in this desolate and broken world. The farther they travel, the more their affection grows, as do the forces pulling them apart. But their greatest threats are the secrets they keep. Zach hides details of his uncles death, and Aiden conceals the vials sinister origins. In order to survive, they'll have to confront the truths that could tear their love apart.

Simply Amazing and Riveting!

I was immediately drawn in, and I really liked that throughout what had happened to cause the world to fall apart was revealed. The story didn’t lull or lag, and there was just the right amount of tension to make my heart stop yet continue. The descriptions of the scenery and the descriptions of the infrastructure (made me so happy the author weaved the infrastructure into the story!) the characters transversed was perfect! Not too little yet not too much! I felt the pain, heartache, and happiness the characters felt throughout, as if I had been traveling with them!

Great book, and cannot wait for Paul’s next!

Really good book, loved the story telling. Enjoy it a lot. Would definitely re read it.

an enjoyable few hour with a likely post apocalypse world. descriptions of the landscape are particularly fine

The two main characters are total sweathearts and show grit, determination, real love&understanding!

Worth the listen! Would be nice if there were more of these with the same narrator.

Character development

I really like how they explain how it felt to be alone and what they had to go through, but I feel like that could be less inappropriate stuff and more focusing on the real mission

A fun, emotional and awesome story

This book is the perfect blend of a sweet gay love story with a post-apocalypse adventure. It had me binge consuming it by the end of the second chapter. If you like the show Heartstopper, you will love the two protagonists in this story.

The amazing story of life, courage, and love despite all odds. Well worth the listen. Thanks to the author and the narrator!

A very good post-apocalyptic book

When I saw that main characters of a post-apocalyptic book were gay I expected that the post-apocalyptic part would be secondary to the LGBTQ+ story. I’m so glad I was wrong! It truly is a post-apocalyptic book whose main characters happen to be gay, not the other way around. Definitely worth your read if you are a fan of WTSHTF books.

good story great narrating

overall I loved the story and the writing. Characters were only minimally annoying. I was definitely left wanting more.

Normalizing LGBTQ lives in a genre most often written in an anti-LGBTQ fashion.

I love the depth of the characters. I have been a great fan of end of the world, ordeal type literature. What was inherent in almost all of them was a right wing more or less bigoted attitude permeating the story. This is refreshing. It is a great book even without the characters being gay. The fact that they are puts it way over the top for me. Great listen too. The narration was truly wonderful.
