Publisher's summary

The darkness holds more than just secrets....

Marked for death, Sabine escaped from her home more than ten years ago.

But the Wild Hunt will never give up.

It should have been easy to stay hidden. All Sabine had to do was keep her head down, avoid telling anyone about her past, and above all else—not let her glamour drop.

Even the best-laid plans eventually fall apart.

When a charismatic stranger arrives in the city, Sabine finds herself unwittingly drawn to the power she can sense hidden within him. Keeping her distance is nearly impossible, especially after a life debt is called due and she’s tasked into helping steal a rare artifact.

Sabine is the only one who can break the magical barriers protecting the item, but that means revealing the truth about her identity and exposing her darkest secrets.

Unfortunately, the Fae aren’t the only ones hunting her.

And the most dangerous monsters aren’t always confined to the dark.

To Kill a Fae

well shoot, this book was really good. I enjoyed every bit of it. it was well written. I'm so looking forward to the next book. why is it that anyone that has power always wants to Possess or kill someone with an even stronger power than them, can't we all just get along? lol but yes this is a great start to a series. I can't wait for Book 2.

SO GOOD. Def need more...

Being engrossed in this book was like being under a spell; I found myself completely enthralled by the time the first chapter ended. Any time I stepped away, I caught myself lost in my head, wondering what everyone was up to or just processing.

I guess the book’s on the bigger side, but I breezed right through it and wish there was more. It’s fast-paced and with magical creatures, demons, etc. living among humans it still works for plausibility, really. Nothing’s left vague, no shortcuts were taken here. Everything’s well-explained and in a way that makes sense. Amazingly, there’s even originality. Character development, scene-setting and overall story are completely brilliant.

I am in awe.

5 stars - and only because this site won’t let me give more.

*Update:
When I saw this was releasing on audio, I just *had* to listen. Review updated to add my review of the narrators/production quality, though the above was written from my experience ARC-reading.

Audio:
This sounds AMAZING. The narrator completely did justice to my expectations after having read the book. She sounds amazing and well-suited for sabine. She performs the book well, rather than taking when I call ‘the robot approach’ and the production is clean (free of any other sounds or weird hiccups). 5-stars for the audio production!

Note:
At the time of this review, the ebook is free on all the major retailers. Which means you could snag that for nothing, and then grab the audio version for a discount. Remember to check everywhere as the price fluctuates across retailers.

FANTASTIC!!

I was so impressed with this audiobook! It was fantastic. And I don't use that word lightly. It's hard to find such a well-written fantasy book with such a smart plot, lovable characters, and an actual ending to the story while still leaving wanting more. I hope she puts out another 10 books, minimum for this series. Waters also picked a brilliant narrator for this! I hope she comes back for book 2.

Recently a lot of authors have been taking one decent novel and chopping it up to make 3 sometimes 4 books out of it. The books would be like 140 pages. It drives me nuts! The books are like 2 hours long. Put all 4 books together and you'd have a great novel. That has been a big thing in fantasy lately. And I can honestly say that this book is far from being anything like that! It is an actual, complete novel. And I can't wait for #2!

Thanx #Firesideaudio for another fantastic book! And #TheFlockVIPReviews. #PinkFlamingo

A very entertaining romantic fantasy; slow start

This is a very entertaining and well written romantic urban fantasy or epic fantasy. The tense first scene got me interested, but then there was about an hour when I was bored until things became interesting again. The heroine Sabine, Malick, and Bain were all intriguing and likeable characters, but Dax is an obnoxious control freak who acts like a Mafia don throwing his weight around. The hour that bored me to death mostly had Dax acting like a pain. Sabine is a moral, likeable person, but she is justifiably ruthless in defending herself with deadly force (in a place without a useful police force). I did enjoy the internally cohesive magical methods and history of that fantasy world. I am looking forward to starting book 2 of this trilogy.
For people squeamish about blood, there is a lot of intentional bleeding from a hand. This book has some moderate violence, but the romantic component is mostly kissing. There is a hint of the heroine having a sort of harem (it is unclear how much sex happened in the past) with two men at a time, and possibly adding a third.
The narration by Meg Price was very good. I thought that she spoke a little too slowly, so I sped it up to 1.2x and I really liked the performance. She is expressive, versatile, and enunciates the right amount. I love her voice for the heroine and her best friend, and all of her men’s voices are believable and distinct from each other. Meg Price’s voice for Malick is suitably sexy, and I could listen to it for hours.
I requested and received a free audio copy from the Flock, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review. #FiresideAudio #TheFlockVIPReviewTeam
