Bengt är en pensionerad polis som drar in svågern Rolf i en katt och råtta-lek. Han har nämligen gett sig sjutton på att de tillsammans ska sätta dit två bankrånare som flytt på en Harley Davidson. Men eftersom demensen slagit till hos såväl förövare som privatspanare uppstår en rad dråpliga situationer och lagen om alltings jävlighet korsar deras väg mer än en gång.
Samtidigt bedriver kyrkans kvinnoklubb Systraskapet, där Bengt och Rolfs fruar har en betydande roll, sitt eget spaningsarbete. De tar hjälp av sina vänner: spåkvinnan Sibylla Månskära, kyrkoherden Johan Johansson och den nyblivna änkan Elin Maccaroni (efter den italienska maffiabossen Riccardo), för att lösa en rad minst sagt oväntade problem som uppstår. En kamp mot klockan inleds och den lilla orten Axberg, på landet norr om Örebro, har aldrig sett på maken till uppståndelse.
