This was an interesting story, weird but interesting.I think it should have been a longer with a bit more description of people, places and things.

Stopping Time is Just the Beginning!

While visiting the St. Louis World’s Fair, George Whipple steps in to help a young orphan boy who is getting beat up by a gang of older boys with his sister crying on the sideline. The old man invites the boy and his “sister” back to the Whipplehouse Orphanage that he runs with his brother for a good night’s sleep and a real meal. The kids only have street names, so the brothers give them the names Parker and Lydia. The Timekeeper is book one in the Realm of Elestra series. This story is mainly about Parker, the magical monocle and his ability to stop time. I really enjoyed Andrew McDermott’s narration with his Irish brogue. I would not consider this book to be a standalone book too many questions are left unanswered, but if you are like me you will be looking forward to continuing on to book two “Lydia”. I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

A good short story

This was a good quick read. At first I was glad when the children were found but by the end I was not so sure it was a good thing.

Didn't hook me

This didn't really get my attention much. It was okay, but the accent of the narrator made it difficult to listen. By the end, I thought it was an interesting book, but I wasn't inspired to read any more of the story.

I received a free copy of the audio book and wrote this review voluntarily.

Good read

Timekeeper (Realm of Elestra Book 1), my first read from author Rebekah Dodson. Well written & enjoyable. Narrator Andrew McDermott’s accent was perfect for this book and added greatly to the listening enjoyment. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Slow but promising start

This book is a bit of a slow-burn, with a lot of set up that takes a while to begin to pay off. The last third is crazy in a good way, though, with murder and macabre details. It ends with quite a few questions, likely to be resolved in the next book.

The narrator took a little bit adjusting to, but I warmed up to him as the book went on. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Interesting 🤔

Timekeeper by Rebekah Dodson seems to have a lot of promise as a great book. The story is interesting with so much possibly, but is too short and the author did not develop the plot well. I listened to it twice to make sure I didn’t miss something and still found myself confused as to how Lydia ended up where she did in the end. Hopefully, the second book will bring it all together.

The narrator, Andrew McDermott, gave another stellar performance! His Irish brogue is always a joy to listen to.

Charles Dickens, Meet Steampunk!

As an introduction to Rebekah Dodson, a found this story to be quite fascinating. It was initially slow starting, but picked up. The orphanage was interesting and I'd love to hear more of that backstory. Parker is the only character I really got to know in the story. He was a bit complicated, but singleminded in his love of Lydia. I found myself wondering what he would have chosen to do with his life, had he been given a true choice. Lydia was a bit more of a mystery. She was perhaps an ordinary girl in the midst of the secrets and intrigue.

Having read little of the Steampunk genre, I found the story easy enough to follow and curious enough to finish. I would definitely pick up the next book in the series.

Content warning: There is some violence, though it's not graphic.
