About this listen

In 1953, a mother's routine drive home is transformed into a time-travel odyssey when the light from a mysterious spacecraft hurls her and her car to 2023, setting in motion a series of extraordinary events and a life-and-death decision.

On a serene night in 1953, Sally Mason, a dedicated wife and mother of two, drives a twisting road on her way home from night school. Suddenly, a mysterious bluish-white light descends over the road.

Terrified, Sally slams on the brakes. After a flash of bright light nearly blinds her, she passes out, awakening to the persistent knock of a police officer on her car window. When she sees the officer and remembers her frightening experience, she screams and faints, and is rushed to the hospital.

What Sally does not know, and what the police eventually and reluctantly conclude, is that Sally and her car have been hurled ahead in time from 1953 to 2023.

Driven by the urgency to reunite with her children, Sally is forced to confront the reason for her time leap journey and to grapple with a life-and-death decision.

It starts one way where nobody believes in time travel and it's inconceivable and then flips into every science fiction trope ever. It's not a bad story but I'd have expected it to retain it's character in one form or the other.

Decent story but flips character half way through

Decent time travel story that kept me interested but overall it was nothing special. Do not expect a science fiction story with challenging philosophical issues.

Solid

I really enjoyed listening to this upbeat book. The characters were compassionate and a fun ending. Refreshing listen.

Sweet story

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The story, the narrator, and the whole idea drew me in. Comparing the 1950s to 2023 was a fun element. I was not able to predict what would happen, and I loved that. Definitely recommend.

Fascinating

This is an easy listen and not a bad story. I was surprised that it wasn't a straight time dilation to stay true to relativity. A 70 year future jump is easily explainable with our science. A 70 year RETURN is not ....

What is remarkable is the author(s) conception of the blissful time of the 1950's. There is a theme in this book that somehow those times were simpler, nicer, and just better. Even the sky was bluer.

While I understand the protaganist angst over such an amazing transition (a 70 year time jump forward from 1953) , I wonder if the authors understand how much we've progressed. The 1950's were filled with white supremacy, a subjugation of all races (other than the clearly super white protaganist), andsegregation in every faucet of American life. Sure its a simpler time if you were a white prom queen... not so much for a whole lot of other Amercans. It's not just fucking Chiles restaurants -- there is more to America than that right now.

Moreover, to diminish the amazing technological advances and to just categorize them as "confusion" isn't very believable considering the ultimate sophistication of the protaganist (who spends most of the book bemoaning her fate) (rightly so in some ways especially regarding her children).

Overall a banal quick read with some interesting story but a reflection of these authors that really have no clue about America and its progression towards open mindedness, woman empowerment, and racial equality. I recall one scene when the protaganist wakes up and sees her nurse in the hospitol and remarks "but you are a negro" -- I actually thought we might see some interesting dynamics from that. Sadly all that remains is a typical story that seems to ignore the bad of those times and critisize the now.

Even the good aliens are "nordic" and white magical beings. One wonders if the authors thought through their own storyline to see how actually rascist it seems. That said I doubt any ill intent from these two.

A nice read but....

Was more about relationships between people and overcoming adversity than extra-terrestrial occurrences - though that was certainly a part of it too.

Not usually into UFO stories but this was extremely enjoyable

Wow! This has got to be one of the best stories I’ve read or listened to in a long time. It’s well written and follows along nicely. It held my interest throughout the entire book. The narrator was the best. She allowed the book to come alive. If you’re into time travel sci-fi stories, then this one is definitely for you. But if the genre doesn’t usually interest you, grab the book anyway. You won’t be disappointed.

Amazing!!

When it comes to time travel stories, I am forgiving of loose endings like in this story.

Fantastic performer

What a wonderful story, quite unexpected, beautifully enhanced by an outstanding performance. Realistic and convincing despite the underlying premise.

Fascinating storyline, excellent performance

This book had a very interesting plot, was well written, and kept me up all night. The best part, I must say, though, was the narration!

Time Travel at it's best!
