This present darkness here today?

Listening to the spell binding unfolding of the spiritual war going on for the town of Ashton, I cannot help but wondering if this is going on right here and now for America. Frank Peretti is at his best in this spiritual warfare saga and in my opinion he does an excellent job in describing how Satan and his demons can get a foothold in people's lives and how they can influence people's decisions by painting a completely different picture of their appearance and the subleties of their deceptions. I hope people can use this bok as a guideline to the warfare that is going on right here among us. This book and it's sequel "Piercing the darkness" are two books no Christian should be without. I rank it right with C.S.Lewis' Screwtape letters.

This Present Darkness

The story is excellent. However, the narrator did not do voices, emotions, or women well

Absolutely Captivating!

Upon downloading, I was skeptical I would stay interested for 16+ hours. But WOW! Jack Sondericker brought this story to LIFE! I couldn't wait to listen each time I had a spare moment. Frank Peretti's representation of spiritual warfare and the spiritual realm was so believable, I found myself bolder in prayer and more aware of these dynamics in my own life. This book, while "fiction" has really built my faith. I will passionately recommend this book/audio to others and I pray for the team that will someday produce a worthy movie.

Descriptive!

This book is so descriptive, easy to envision each character, angel and demon. Two stories in one, a story of peoples lives in a small town as well as the demons and angels fighting against each other for us, demons to control us, and how our prayers help the angels defeat them.

Terrible sound

Very "tinny". Sounds like you are down in a can listening. Jack Sondricker's voice is great, bordering on a Paul Harvey type commentary. However the recording is at a very poor bit rate......Why?
Is it that hard to get a good recording in this day and age? Or was it cheaply done? I was very excited to see this book now done unabridged on Audible, but I am so disappointed in the sound. There is some improvement on the pc over the Android phone or Kindle.
Come on Audible, we are on your format now because of failing eyesight. The sound is everything!

Peretti Provides Another Mystery

The battle between the forces of good and evil is examined as if we had a special pair of eye glasses that could see the realm of angels and demons. Good listen...

Good, but I think it'll be better the second time

If you could sum up This Present Darkness in three words, what would they be?

SHIT! ANGELS! DEMONS!

Any additional comments?

I have mixed feelings about This Present Darkness. For me, the book suddenly started to get exciting around the halfway point, and I sort of felt like I was fumbling along and confused before that. There is a large cast, comprising much of the town, not to mention the angels and demons fighting for control. It's a little too easy to lose track, especially with (seemingly) random jumps in POV.

It all did seem to click around halfway, though, when characters really started sticking out and then the conspiracy began to unfold. The battle for Ashton came clearer, and I really began to enjoy what was going on. I have a feeling that this will be a book I enjoy much more the second time around.

I do want to give a caveat. This Present Darkness is pretty spiritual, overtly and in subtext. It doesn't go so far to be preachy, really. In fact, it's very deftly done. I just wanted to put that out there for anyone who isn't interested in that sort of thing. It didn't give me some strong religious experience or sway my mind in any way. But there is definitely a Christian theme.
