Poorly constructed.
I guess this is a redemption story, but as the main character doesn't seem to desire redemption it feels heavily plot driven. only when we learn valuable information abut the Dex's past near the end of the book do we start to see an emotional arc emerge; maybe would have been more invested in the character had that information been given before.
