About this listen

"Katherine Silva spins a unique apocalypse in her new novel The Wild Dark—a book that asks: What happens to humanity when the gates to the afterlife start to swing the wrong way? A darkly imaginative world combines with a story of love beyond death to keep the pages turning." (Wendy N. Wagner, author of The Deer Kings and An Oath of Dogs)

Ghosts. Soul-eating wolves. World-consuming woods. A friendship that defies death.

Elizabeth "Liz" Raleigh has lost everything: her job as a police detective, her partner, her fiancé, and her peace of mind. After a month of solitude at a cabin in the woods, she finally feels as though she’s ready to move on.

But in one terrifying night, everything changes. Liz's partner, Brody, appears in the form of a ghost. He's one of millions that have returned to haunt their loved ones. Brody can't remember how he died and Liz is determined to keep the secret of it buried, for it means dredging up crushing memories. Along with him comes an unearthly forest purgatory that swallows up every sign of human civilization across the world. The woods are fraught with disturbing architecture and monstrous wolves hungry for human souls. Brody says he escaped from them and that the wolves are trying to drag him and others ghosts back.

As winter closes in and chaos erupts across New England, Liz fights desolation, resurfacing guilt, and absolute terror as she tries to survive one of the most brutal winters she's ever seen.

A Different Intriguing Apocalypse!

No one knows when the apocalypse will happen, but we all know it is coming. Humanity rarely treats one another civilly and it comes with a variety of creatures and horrors. Liz loses her job, her friend, and her life as she knew it. She copes with her losses via alcohol and denial. But then the apocalypse occurs and she must emerge from her self-induced sheltered life to adapt and overcome her new existence where nothing is normal and right/wrong means nothing.

The author, Katherine Silva, skillfully crafts a unique and imaginative story within an apocalyptic backdrop, excelling in world-building and character development. The narrative remains accessible through flashbacks and intense character interactions. Silva captures the interest and passion of her audience through the detailed blending of the supernatural and the apocalypse into one story.

The narrator, Lisa Roumain slips into the characters easily and smoothly. Her voice resonates with the appropriate mix of emotions. Her delivery is flawless and smooth. She speaks clearly and keeps the story moving forward as she slips into each character seamlessly.

This is a creative and wildly imaginative story with a wonderful narrator! Don’t miss it!

Amazing Story!

This book kept me guessing at every turn. So original, creative, and chilling. The characters came to life quickly and felt realistic, even before their past is revealed. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Dystopian Ghosts!

The book begins with Liz Raleigh being awakened while staying at a remote cabin by noises of someone on the porch. When she goes to investigate, nobody is there. She soon encounters the ghost of her dead partner, Brody, and the adventure begins!

It seems that some people are seeing their dead loved ones and the government thinks it is caused by a virus. However, Liz and Brody venture into the woods and find monstrous wolves that seem determined to drag these wandering souls into Purgatory.

Liz feels guilty for Brody's death and is determined to keep him from remembering the past. as she tries to reach her loved ones, she is involved in several car wrecks, gets shot, thrown into a river, and beaten half to death. And, just when she thought that her ex-fiance is out of her life, she is reunited with him.

This book is full of ghosts, possessions, and angst, all while the MC is trying to survive in a dystopian environment. It is fast paced, full of great characters with lots of flaws, and a lot of creepy action along the way. The author has done a good job in weaving the backstory with the present (which doesn't always work so well) and you really learn to know the characters as the book progresses.

Very different kind of apocalypse

I enjoyed this book mostly. it's a very different take on an apocalypse, however, the narrator, while good, makes every male character sound geriatric. It gets to be quite detracting from the story and took me out of it a few times. The narrator is fantastic as the main character though. Overall it's not a bad time just a bit unintentionally jarring.

To Many Inconsistencies

This story had to many Inconsistencies with previous books un this series, which really messed up the story. This is also a Very Depressing book that only has tragedy as it's basis. Narrator does a OK job with what there is to work with. Still no real answer to what is actually going on, and yhis is the 3rd book!!
