Acerca de esta escucha

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Nightingale and The Great Alone comes an incandescent story about the resilience of the human spirit, the triumph of hope, and the meaning of home.

In the rugged Pacific Northwest lies the Olympic National Forest - nearly a million acres of impenetrable darkness and impossible beauty. From deep within this old growth forest, a six-year-old girl appears. Speechless and alone, she offers no clue as to her identity, no hint of her past.

Having retreated to her western Washington hometown after a scandal left her career in ruins, child psychiatrist Dr. Julia Cates is determined to free the extraordinary little girl she calls Alice from a prison of unimaginable fear and isolation. To reach her, Julia must discover the truth about Alice’s past - although doing so requires help from Julia’s estranged sister, a local police officer. The shocking facts of Alice’s life test the limits of Julia’s faith and strength, even as she struggles to make a home for Alice - and for herself.

“One of [Kristin Hannah’s] most compelling and riveting novels.” - Booklist

The story is wonderful, but, oh, the narration....Not as bad as some, but certainly could be much better. Seems to be the case with all of these "special sale" selections.

Another good Kristin Hannah

The story was so good. I loved anticipating what "Alice' was going to do next. Ending was not a surprise but for someone who usually hates endings to books, it was pretty good.

The narrator was only so-so and I would have stopped listening except that I was enjoying the story. This book would have been one that multiple narrators should have been used. She was not good at switching voices and she spoke so slowly at times.

Still, I would recommend it because Kristin Hannah wrote it.

I love Kristin Hannah

I've listened to hundreds of books on Audible and this narrator is the worst I've heard. I gritted my teeth and got through it because I really enjoyed the book and am loyal to Kristin Hannah.

Love Kristin Hannah, needs a different narrator.

this is my first kristen hannah book.. and I def expected more based on reviews of the Great Alone and some of her other books
I found this book to be long winded (even when nothing much was happening), many of the characters to be uni-dimensional and somewhat predictable.. I did finish the book bc I wanted to know what would happen. but even that fell a little flat for me.. felt like the writing was more consumed by describing emotions over and over again but the story itself never turned into anything super exciting

beside the writing I had a REALLY hard time with the narration.. it was rough.. the pronunciation of certain words, the exaggerated personification of characters..I struggled through that to get to the end of the book

not sure if I'd recommend this..

so so.. expected more

This was a really good book. It wasn't the best I've listened to, but the relationships in the book were heartwarming as it progressed.

Heartwarming

I wanted to love this book after reading some of Kristin Hannah's others, but I got this book as an Audible and it's all I can do to continue listening because of the narrator's ridiculous characters' voices. They are distracting, wrong for each character, and add a lot of feeling and emotion that might be better left to the reader to insinuate. She seems to have a lot of the emotions wrong for the character and the circumstances, not to mention that the voices alone are really annoying. This is only the second audible book for me and most likely the last. Read the hard copy instead.

Ruined by the narrator

I enjoy K.Hannah books So Much due to her ability to keep things real. Good wholesome family novels - GREAT for travel, fireside or roadtrip - enjoyable read.

A beautiful story about Love, second chances, family and friendship. I couldn’t stop listening to it!

But omg it’s long winded. Think William Wordsworth and you are in 12th grade English long winded. The pace of this story is extremely slow and while I appreciated the meticulous crafting and enjoyed the tangle of events, this will be a better movie or tv show than a book.

Love the storyline

Great story so I was able to finish it, just not a big fan of the narration. Several times I told myself to just buy the book at read it myself. The police chief sounds like she is a robot at times or someone who just came out of a coma who is learning to speak again, most definitely doesn’t come across as a police chief and the rest of the voices are just as bad.
