About this listen

Lovely but penniless Harriet Metcalf is aghast when a nobleman’s will names her guardian of his snobbish twin daughters when they come out during the next London Season! But is innocent Harriet wily enough for the intrigues of the ton—or its two most eligible bachelors, the Marquess of Huntingdon and Lord Vere? Harriet sees them as suitors for the twins, while the gentlemen see only Harriet’s charms. Soon she is falling in love with one of the dashing rakes…but a cruel betrayal will be her ruin unless the Clarges Street servants can save a lady’s honor when she loses her heart.

Critic reviews

“Chesney sets a lively tempo, moving admittedly familiar events and characters to a pleasingly predictable conclusion.” ( Publishers Weekly)

Never a disappointment!

Another delightful story by Beaton and entertaining narration by Nettleton. Whenever I need to brighten my mood, I go to one of Beaton's sweet Regency series.

Good Story

Although the first half hour left me cold and I stopped listening, the story after that was very good and I happily listened right to the end. I don’t usually enjoy romance stories, however, I must say this one (except for the first half hour) was a good one. I do enjoy M.C. Beaton books very much and this story is, now, another one of my favorites.

Wicked good

Any additional comments?

Another winner by M C Beaton. I am so glad I found this writer. She has no sex but adds passion to her books without physical intimacy. Although I am a fan of the physical intimacy, I feel that sometimes the passion withheld can be more erotic for the readers.
The narrator is very poor again, however, if you are able to overlook that the story is wonderful. Now off to read more of her books.

Great series!

I thoroughly enjoy this series. The characters make the story. They are well fleshed out, absolutely believable, and narrated to perfection.
It's been such an unexpected little treasure I found.
I definitely will be continuing this series.

Love Love Love

Why have I not found this series before and why aren’t there more books than there are? Surely there should be. I think there are only 3 left. I’m not sure. But there should be a lot more. I’ll be sad after I’ve listened to all of them.

Entertaining and Enchanting

Any additional comments?

First of all I'd like to respond to other comments made regarding the narrator. I think she did a marvelous job. Her voice is lovely and creamy with excellent articulation.

This is the fourth in the "House for the Season" book I have listened to and all have been narrated by Lindy Nettleton. She has performed the books to perfection in my opinion and enhanced the characterization very much.

I have loved this series and recommend it highly. At turns fun, humorous, tender, and yes even predictable, the stories are ever so entertaining. Full of excellent Regency detail, the romances involve people we cheer for and wait with anticipation for the moment when the hero and heroine finally recognize that they belong together.

Thank you M.C. Beaton and Lindy Nettleton.

Very good!

This book was very good and well written except that the naivety of the heroine was so overbearing! I couldn't believe how gullible she was. The hero supposedly who is the marquis was a brute. The servants made the book a delight, thank goodness for them and their indifference. They did well putting stuff to rights after the debacle that the maid and evil goddaughters began. Lindy Nettleton did a great job with the narration.

Boring

I listened to the first 2 books. They were ok. I just couldn't get into this one. This one was just boring.

Not of interest to me

We listened for almost 30 minutes and could not get interested. Unusual because MC Beaton books always interest us. I suppose one out of 30 or 40 books we've listened to that we thoroughly enjoyed, isn't bad.
