About this listen

At the age of 18, in that first golden Oxford summer, Milly was up for anything. Rupert and his American lover, Allan, were an important part of her new, exciting life, so when Rupert suggested to her that she and Allan should get married to keep Allan in the country, Milly didn't hesitate. Ten years later, Milly is a very different person and engaged to Simon - who is wealthy, serious, and believes her to be perfect. Milly's secret history is locked away so securely she has almost persuaded herself that it doesn't exist - until, only four days before her elaborate wedding.

To have and to hold takes on a whole new meaning when one bride's past catches up with her and bring the present crashing down. With her trademark style of keen insight and razor sharp wit, Madeleine Wickham introduces her fanatical fan-base, plus a host of new listeners, to a fresh and irresistible heroine in The Wedding Girl.

Entertaining fluffy listen

This book did exactly what I wanted it to do - give me a fluffy listen over vacation. It was pretty engaging, amusing, and ultimately satisfying. I have not craved listening to it again -yet.
But it's good to know it is in my library if I want to be amused again on another long drive or vacation.

slow

very slow to start. Sweet idea, but far too long to get to the point. Wouldn't recommend it.

Not what I expected

What did you like best about The Wedding Girl? What did you like least?

I love Sophie Kinsella for her light and fun reads. This is somewhat light but has some heavy topics.

More Substance Than You're Expecting

One of the things I liked most about this book was that you get to see the main characters when they are young, foolish, and care-free, and then ten years later when the demands of adulthood have all but suppressed their spirit. I also liked that while it's told in third-person, it moves from one character to another--so there is more than one protagonist.

This is one of those books where everything does not work out perfectly for the various characters. Wickham brings much more to the chick-lit genre than you'll find in your average romance novel. In fact, there are a couple of points in the novel when you might even get a little misty :)

The whole mess of how the wedding played out.

She read at a great pace and brought so much life to the characters.

Entertaining romance

Great characters, funny and touching chaos. Great underlying message about honesty in relationships and being true to yourself. I found myself rooting for all of the characters to overcome their challenges.
