About this listen

The Way of the Peacemaker is an essay by writer and poet, Eric Simpson, on the ethos of the Beatitudes.

The Beatitudes are primarily an announcement by Jesus of a paradigm shift, a new kingdom or country or community - whatever metaphor we use is less important than the point that is being made: the old guard is over, the new kingdom has arrived. If you were poor and stigmatized and rejected by society in the former paradigm, you are uniquely blessed by God and all things are yours in the new paradigm. The Beatitudes offer us an icon of what it means to be a peacemaker, and the path of transformation towards that end. As we see, it has very little to do with adhering to strict, abstract and absolute moral codes, if anything at all.

It has more to do with orienting the mind, heart and will to become peace, and thereby be an instrument of peace for others.
