About this listen

Mankind has ceded the night to the corelings, demons that rise up out of the ground each day at dusk, killing and destroying at will until dawn, when the sun banishes them back to the Core. As darkness falls, the world’s few surviving humans hide behind magical wards, praying the magic can see them through another night. As years pass, the distances between each tiny village seem longer and longer. It seems nothing can harm the corelings, or bring humanity back together.

Born into these isolated hamlets are three children. A Messenger teaches young Arlen that fear, more than the demons, has crippled humanity. Leesha finds her perfect life destroyed by a simple lie and is reduced to gathering herbs for an old woman more fearsome than the demons at night. And Rojer’s life is changed forever when a traveling minstrel comes to his town and plays his fiddle.

But these three children all have something in common. They are all stubborn and know that there is more to the world than what they’ve been told, if only they can risk leaving their safe wards to find it.

Had to get used to the second half

Very good story, and I remember reading it in the days of yor. First half was very well performed, and it is my first dramatized adaptation experience. Second half felt, fast, I suppose. The narrator sounded a little but “faster” than in the first half, but once you get used to it, it isn’t such a problem.
All in all, had me captivated all day. (I listened to the whole thing within 24 hours)

brought to life

I love this rendition. the voices and sounds in this dramatization brought this story from my imagination to life. I always wondered what these people would've sounded like and how to pronounce the names properly. I'm saddened that I can't yet afford the rest of the series. as I listened to this story I could close my eyes and almost see the adventure in my minds eye.

Rated R book but great start for Debut Author.

This book is a perfect beginning to an interesting world. Peter V Brett weaves a story through the eyes of three main characters who have different strengths and weaknesses who rarely get along when they are together. Graphic Audio balances out the narratives masterfully though thmu"fiddle music" is generic and the crowd sound effects are either collective gasp or group collective gasp. I love the gutteral snarls of the demons.
Overall the story is a 10 the Sound effects are a 9 and the voice acting is a 10. This is a fun book for anyone over the age of 18.

the non movie version is better

I really enjoy the original narrative more

the graphic audio narrator in the "second" book read very quickly and was hard to follow

if I haven't read trh original and listen to the original I may have got lost

Cool concept well developed The

The story is original and promises to be a great series. The voicing was tough at times (young arlen especially) and a bit much with the background noise at times. First time with a Dramatized version
