Quality narration by Matthew Lloyd Davies!

I was surprised that this story had a male main character.
Normally, I prefer female main characters, but this was well balanced.

It contained drama, violence, murders, angst, humour, and emotional tension.

Too mild for me

I was expecting a spicy novel like what Kerrigan Byrne writes, but it was 1/2 out of 5 on the spice meter. Sweet story, but I was wanting more steam.

Pretty Good

This was good. I liked that the heroine was intelligent. I liked that the hero was not a rogue or a rake.

Unusual but good!

I liked the storyline, a little different than what you would expect of a romance novel. At first I thought I was listening to a sad dismal heartbreaking tale but I hung in there long enough and it started turning around & became very enjoyable. Narration was great.

Wry enjoyable

Loved it. As all romance novels, it is a little predictable, but that’s part of what makes it a relaxing read. Great narrator.

Great Read!

This is the first in the series and I devoured it. It’s an emotional roller coaster, especially for the MMC, who suddenly finds himself inheriting the title of Duke and all that goes with it. Add a young lady who’s been helping her parents run his country estate and (sigh) a recipe for romance. Through a rocky road it weaves its way to a HEA.
The narrator is good but only 4-star.
Overall a good weekend read. The steam level is 3-1/2 - 4 but the sex scenes can be easily skipped without altering the story.

Great narrator and a very easy listen

Matthew Davies does a fantastic job at narrating this story. He really brings it to life. This is the first book from this author that I have listened to and I look forward to more. I highly recommend

Not a re-listen for me

New author and new narrator for me. Not a repeat listen. Just too blah. I'm not sure if it's the narrator or if it's just immature writing.

Very Disappointing

The story was …. well there really wasn’t a story just a series of descriptive scenes to move the book forward.
Overall the story was thin, the characters uninspired, and the kiss of death - predictable.
I have enjoyed Alexa Aston’s books and will continue to purchase and read unfortunately “Discouraging the Duke” was a dud.

It could of been

The story started out very good held my attention till the sex explicit scenes dominated the whole story. I will not be listening to any more of this author stories.
