About this listen
The price to know this secret is your life!
On the other side of the Aether is a dirty and dangerous London filled with marvelous steam-powered machines and magic.
Detective “Dolly” Williamson’s job is to keep the cesspool from growing bigger. He loves when he just gets a simple murder. Follow the clues, catch the culprit. One man’s way to shrink the stink of the streets.
That won’t happen this Sunday morning.
On this Sunday, he is called to the poshest part of London to the swanky home of Sir Francis Chilton. The head of a prestigious merchant bank lending to the kings, queens, and the mechanists of Europe.
When the detective saw the corpse, he knew he would need the help of Sister Rose Caldwell, the White Witch of London.
Chilton wouldn’t spit on Rose Caldwell if she were on fire, but if anyone is going to figure out who turned Chilton into a crispy corpse, it will be the metaphysicist Rose Caldwell.
The case takes a turn when France’s death cult shows up, and Dolly is forced to work with the Necronists. They know who the murderer is and are hell-bent on bringing the suspect back to France. Dolly suspects they want to find the murderer for other reasons than justice.
More of London’s well-to-do are turned into lifeless husks while Rose and Dolly put the pieces together. The race is on to find the murderer before the Necronsits can do the same. The bloody trail leads to a shocking family secret. This secret won’t die and has come back to haunt all those who took part in the cover-up.
This alternative history thriller takes place in a fantastic 19th century setting where magic and marvelous machines exist. This unique blend of detective story and urban fantasy will make you want to keep listening and on the edge of your seat.

Story
There is a persistent and incorrect idea, reinforced by countless film misrepresentations, that Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson were always staid and dull British chaps of middle years (or older), with Holmes a spry, cranky, and impatient eccentric, and Watson a white-haired and portly Boobus Brittanicus, a la Nigel Bruce. Students of the true and Canonical Sherlock Holmes know this to be a falsehood.

Story
Lady Sophronia Bremerton is a far cry from the typical debutante, but she’s the toast of London’s upper class for one simple reason: she’s a society columnist for the London Illustrated News, and the gentry loves seeing their exploits printed in the gossip pages. But Sophie has bigger plans - she aspires to be an investigative reporter. When a stuffy ballroom during yet another Season proves to be nothing more than the usual rumor mill, Sophie seeks respite in the library, alongside four other young women who, for their own reasons, are also looking for escape.

Unique Steampunk&Paranormal&Detective
How can I give it 5 Stars with Performance and Story both at 4?!? Well, many characters and accents are difficult yet Ana did a great job. And the story wandered a little in the middle, but all came back together. And, I just thoroughly enjoyed it overall!
So, I highly recommend you start, and enjoy, this first in the series. I cannot wait to start Book 2!
